My son has been poorly for the last month and I have been searching the net and this maybe a possible diagnosis. He has had all sorts of bloods done (high bili ruben count) and another high count which I cannot remember and has the yellow eyes and exhaustion.
His doctor is allowing only 3hour work a day and that is from home but he is getting depressed over it as he is normally never ill and has a young family to attend to.
Anything to help much appreciated.

One would need to know the results of the blood tests which would indicate which type of jaundice it happens to be:

1) Pre hepatic......e.g haemolytic anaemia
2) Hepatic.....Hepatitis
3) Post hepatic.

From the account that you have given us, my month´s pay would go on Hepatitis A,B,C or D

Has he had a liver biopsy?

Tell him not to get too depressed (jaundice does make one depressed) and not to feel well for weeks to come.

I have Gilberts but was told by my GP that it's pretty harmless, one of those things and nothing to worry about. Not sure if you can get a more serious version though.

Oops, too click happy, I'm not sure if there is any connection but I have bile acid malabsorption and wierd levels of things with that with deficiencies and such so not that if they are connected for me.

Sounds awful for your son, really hope he gets some help soon.
I was diagnosed with Gilberts Syndrome when I was 16 - it normally runs in families - my Dad has it also. The whites of my eyes sometimes go yellow, especially if I have been unwell. I am now 54 and it hasn't really affected my life to that extent. Though I do seem to take ages to get over colds, flu etc.

When I have a liver blood profile done - my bilirubin is normally around 28, which is quite high. The normally count should be between 0-20.

Re my son's illness. All hepatitis ruled out and now been told to have 4 weeks off work. Next is an MNR scan and then the liver biopsy. Still yellow and poorly. More blood taken but know not what for.
Thanks to all who have replied
Live biopsy essential.....let us know the result.
would you donate me that months pay please?
Goudsoulette...;-) it is on it´s way.
Awesome, you have got a job though yeah??? I've not asked for nothing? I'm out of touch with who does what around here.

Re my original question
My son has now had all tests and on Wed visit to the doc it was decided that it was a VIRUS and would just take time to clear. He still is poorly and not back to work. He has been given no medication for his condition but I have bought some Milk Thistle for him to try and as he has had this for only a couple of days there is no impact yet. Hoping he is on the mend and back to work soon . Thanks to all who have sent helpful answers.
