Yesterday I was at work and a male colleague was talking about someone he knew and said"shame she used to be pretty but has put on some weight recently"! what a derogatory comment? I think there must be a lot of men out there missing out on some fantastic girls if this is how they think....

well hello JJ-from strongbow drinking builder beejay
I don't understand that by putting on weight can suddenly make a pretty person, unpretty lol. There are plenty of bigger women who are far more beautiful than slim women.
My mum works in a garage and the guy in the office next door to them (he owns the garage they work in and pops in and out for chats) - well basically the other receptionist works out and has a nice figure so he tells my mum she ought to do something with her body to look like the other woman!!
I think it's an absolute disgrace to be honest. I don't think anyone has the right to say anything about someone's weight to be honest.
Personality and a sense of humour are top of my list.

Anyway, regarding your original post....I like curves! Maybe he likes 'size zero' types.
all men like different things apparently, some like the very slim type of woman, some like the curvy page 3 type, and some like the fuller figured types of women.

maybe the guy was in the first camp so to speak, As for shallowness I think that is something that mellows with age, the FHM top 10 women does not mean that that is the only type of women men go for. woman can be as shallow as men, I think younger men always pick a woman that makes them look good (makes their mates jealous)

I tend to like what I like, that has been.. small, tall, thin, fat, bald, hairy , they have all had that something about them I like :)
do you know the woman in question? for all you know he could have been being very kind..., in that she is now huge and weighs 40 stone or something...
I always say - If you don't like it don't look! I may be heavier than I would prefer but they don't have to look at me. I think women are quite shallow also, I think women judge other women more than men do - well it has been that way in my experience. Women are often very harsh when it comes to other womens looks.
tilly, I think you've overheard a casual comment and as JJ and others have said, it was a comment any of us might have made, it doesn't sound malicious to me.
JJ go get your cold shower now.
I think it was a crass way to express an opinion, but men are often gulty of that.

If he says it again lways say something like - "Don't worry, I'm sure with a body like yours, you are perfectly safe ..."

Might make him think a little.

BTW, that's my usual retort when any male within earshot makes a derogatory remark about a camp man in the vicinity. The fear reation usually triggers a standard masculinity affirming observation from at least one straight man in the area.

If it's people i don;t know, I sometimes like to follow that up with -

"He may be very attractive, I don't know, I'm not a homosexual ..."

pause

"... but I have slept with a man who is ...!"

Usually makes people stop and think!
My ex wife was very shallow. I knew I should have tied more rocks to her feet.
Sorry to be crass but I dont fancy fat women! never have and cant see me ever doing it!

if you dont physically fancy a lass then its over before its started for me!

If you want me to justify it Why would i fancy someone who is:
unhealthy
not in control of herself
likely to die younger
and is probably not gonna share common interests with me
