My daughter (18 in a few weeks) lives with her Dad in Ireland. Well she did until they had a fall out. She is now staying with her boyfriend. She phoned me yesterday asking for money to put a deposit down on her own place. Ok...no problem, but how are you going to pay the bills etc....her answer...well I'll get some money for my birthday.

How naive is that, and would you give them the money knowing they have nothing coming in?

BTW....they don't leave school until they are 18 in Ireland.

"would you give them the money knowing they have nothing coming in? " - No.

If you do she'll be running to you to bail her out each month or whenever she's financially short. I believe you should have a serious talking with her and explain exactly what she's getting herself into.

That's my thinking. I agreed yesterday when she phoned me because I felt sorry for her....

Ginger has agreed to go over to see her (with me and the boys of course) and see for ourselves what the situation is.
I think that Ginger guy is really nice.

He is...bless him :-)
She had to learn about life unfortunately ummmm - so are you coming for a visit?
You might get a better idea when you go over to see her.

It's a dilemma.

Children ! I can't wait until I'm old enough to be a worry to my son ! :o)

I don't know belmullet ummmm so I won't laugh - anyway my fathers family were originally from Shrule in Mayo - more pubs than houses in the town - lol
Question Author
Haha....a bit like Belmullet then. They are actually outside it but that's the nearest town. All 6 streets of it...lol
"I can't wait until I'm old enough to be a worry to my son"

She's never asked me for anything before. She's messaging me on facebook and I keep asking her how she will pay her bills but she's not coming up with anything other than 'I'll manage' and 'Dad will buy me food'
She's fallen out with dad and yet expecting him to buy her food. You're right she's quite naive, poor kid. What's the boyfriend saying to this?

I don't know Society. He's not working either,,,she just says 'I'll get a part time job' yeah right...!!
Kids...yeah we got my husbands son living with us now, such a nice young guy but...no concept of the costs involved to ....well just to live really.
Question Author
I gave her list of bills....her answer 'they are all on meters' WHAT...even your TV Lisence?
even meters need to be topped up...which im sure you've told her. Nevermind she'll grow up ....and then maybe have a daughter of her own ... and you can remind her of this in years to come
Question Author
lol...that is a scary thought..!!
I don't see the problem. Give her £50,000 for her birthday, and by next year she'll either be employed, or will have filled the house up with lodgers. Simples.
