Say 'No thank you'and keep walking.
I'd happily donate a couple of quid to what I consider to be a good cause, but I don't like charities asking me to set up a direct debit for them.
Is it so difficult to say no and carry on walking?
I give where I want to and refuse politely where I don't. I also explain that I NEVER take out subscriptions to charities. I have to say it doesn't bother me. My donations are my own affair.
As the song says "Just Walk On By"
PS collectors are NOT allowed to accost you or ask for donations. They are allowed to say good morning/good afternoon.

I must admit I tend to do my Fortune Teller impersonation if I get 'Chugged'
As soon as I see anyone with a clip board I cross the road.

PS,
I do support two Charities all year 'round via DD,
(RNLI and RBL)
It drives me nuts. I do donate to a select few charities, but these people make me feel guilty when I walk past without donating (I don't give in, mind you, and my conscience clears quickly!). And the are collectors, not volunteers - they earn good money

But it's not charities that have griped me today, it's shops. Every checkout you get to the assistant asks 'do you have a loyalty card?' 'No, I'm not interested' I reply. 'Would you like to apply for one to get great savings etc etc?' I've just said I'm not interested! Everywhere you turn, someone is trying to get a few pennies out of you
loyalty cards cost nothing, how can they be trying to get pennies out of you?

I feel very Guilty when I do keep waking Mam, there was some Army Lads in Burnley 2 weeks ago, I said I would be back after I'd been into the shop, I think he must have thought, tight git, I did go back.
They gather all your personal data for marketing purposes, Woof - therefore tweaking their current marketing ploys to gain more money out of consumers in the future
I don't like being phoned at home asking me to increase my DD.....but I have informed them that if it happens again I will stop giving at all....

I have, for years collected in the street or at supermarkets for Save the Children.....I've had people chat and not donate....it's fine....my presence was...would you like to donate....not you must donate....no-one is thought mean for choosing not to donate.

I didn't do it this year and won't in future though....Save the Children USA has given an award to Tony Blair for services to children....or some such nonsense.....so I have resigned....x

BlackadderV: You and me both, unless they are with someone and I walk fast towards them - you never get too 'sat' on top of each other. I only dodge them because they are usually BRC and I already donate to them - it just saves wasting their time when they want to get into a full blown conversation. I admire them for it though.
As a result of buying 1320 litres of vehicle fuel at Morrisons, I have this very day acquired a £5 off voucher! I calculate I have spent around £1650 to get this fiver.Such largesse!
It is a well paid job. I was offered a position to work for a charity at around £250 a week with digs, around the UK. Then my step dad became ill and I was needed here. Long hours and you have to have your heart in the right place :)
sorry, wrong thread^
Right thread, in response to AlwaysConfused's post above.
