Hi Sqad, I was planning to go home to the SW in a week or so as I have 10 days off work but I`m seriously thinking of going somewhere else because the weather is just so bad. We (I would be taking my Mum) would want to go on a scheduled airline (I know which one) that would be leaving from the London area and it could be last minute (I would bag a couple of spare seats if there are any). One of the places I was thinking of was Menorca. I just want 4 or 5 nights in a little hotel or B&B somewhere with a bit of a beach to stroll along, nice food, a glass or wine at sunset. Have you got any ideas? Do you know any nice places or at least, a nice little B&B or small hotel? Thanks

237SJ.....I will have a word with Mrs sqad who is a bit more hotel savy, than me.
Will get back to you later this morning.
More thoughts.

What you should understand re. Menorca is that itnis ideal for families and kids.........push chairs, nappies, orange juice, dummies and all that screaming, so not an idle Island for you and your mother...BUT....mrs sqad has an idea for Menorca and she will send a post for you after she has done the shopping.
Hi sqad, I am surprised to learn that menorca is as bad as Ibiza, I thought you were a quieter island, guess you just don't get the clubbers! I have been in England since end of April and flying back this Monday, I hear it is rather warm there now.
netty, we don't get the "clubbers" like Ibiza, but they are replaced by hordes of kids with parents, grandparents and the whole "cabboodle"...;-)
sqad's a native so it's bit cheeky to disagree but I've been going to Menorca every year for the last 12. There are touristy areas as sqad says but there are lots of very beautiful quiet places where you don't get this kind of thing. I'd stay away from Cala n Blanes, Cala n Bosch, *** Prima, Cala Galdana and Son Parc - the real package places. There's quite an OK quiet hotel in Alcaufar right on a small beach or have a look at Es Castell.
err why is 'p u n t a' starred out?
Prudie......I agree entirely with all that you have said.

Mrs sqad still bust, now preparing the dinner, so i will take over for what she was going to say.

The Hamilton Hotel. Es Castell....recently refurbished......no kids. Small beach, but restaurants and shops ( poor standard) within yards.
Ideally placed for that walk at night and glass of red wine....;-)
The other advantage is that it looks over the harbour and we live on the opposite side so that you can wave to me.

You might need to hire a car.

Keep me informed.

Thanks Sqad (and Prudie).
I`ve looked at the loads and the flights next week are half empty which I`m quite surprised about. I`ll have to have a trawl through tripadvisor but it`s definitely worth thinking about if the weather doesn`t pick up here. It`ll probably be a last minute decision.

Hi again Sqad,
Alas, I don`t think I`ll be waving to you across the bay after all. The Male flight is half empty and I`m trying to resist some serious temptation here. I shall have to wave to you across the atoll instead and save Menorca for another day.
have a great time! I think I'd pick Male over Menorca given the chance!

Thanks Prudie. I haven`t given into it yet but I`ve got the feeling I will. x
237SJ.......you will be worth waiting for.........;-)
