Friendships with the opposite sex

I have spent almost my entire working life with people of the opposite sex. As I have moved from one job to another I have kept in touch with the ones who have become friends. Periodically I meet up with old colleagues, I even stay overnight at their home.

Having just mentioned to a friend that I am seeing an old colleague and am spending the night at his house, my friend is horrified. Is it really that weird to spend the night under the same roof as a good friend of the opposite sex.

BTW this is not new, I often meet him for drinks or dinner without anything untoward occurring.

Not in my opinion, merely adult behaviour.
Not weird at all. I've always got on better with blokes.
When I played sport a lot I often bumped into one guy at table tennis tournaments and we became great friends. He lived in Kent so when I worked in London for a year if I wasn't working at weekends I'd sometimes go stay at his house just to get away from my hotel.................as we were both divorced at the time my colleagues refused to believe nothing was going on.
Shocking behaviour !!
Only joking, you enjoy yourself Ecclescake : )
All my best friends are male, I've laughed, cried, gone clubbing, dining, walking etc with them all and slept in the same bed (with one) and nothing ever went on.
to some it is. I am much the same, have many bloke mates. I used to have one mate come round most night and he would often fall asleep so I would leave him on couch. To others we were an item but nothing ever happened with us. But I let people think what they like. I am with someone now and would never be that pally with blokes. But I still dont see a problem with a mate staying round after the pub if they cant get home.

Thank you for the reassurance! I was starting to think think her inference was that I was a slapper! Given my Husband is none too bothered about me seeing my friend I was beginning to wonder how odd my friendships are???
I never went on hen nights but I've been on two brilliant stag nights.........the last one ended up with 5 of the blokes kipping down at my house.
I've had loads of female friends over the years and have often stayed at their houses or them at mine, often in the same bed, it's no big deal.
''often in the same bed''

Really? Is there room for anyone else once you've collapsed and folded yourself in you lanky bastard ;-p

It's quite reassuring that I'm not the only grown up in the room.

I was getting really paranoid. Spending the night under the roof of a male whilst not wearing a chastity belt. I'm pleased to hear my friends reaction is the odd behaviour and not mine!
Yeah, I just have to keep my socks on as my feet hang out the end of the bed(this is possibly the reason why nothings ever happened when they've been in my bed) :)
Entirely natural to have friends of both sexes and to stay with them. Don't know about in the same bed though, Chuck? Nothing to do with sexuality as such, I don't like sharing my bed with friends of either sex, or relations for that matter. Beds are for sharing only with very special people :o)
I am a special person ;)
Of course you are Chuck, very special xx
Question Author
Chuck, we may become special friends in the fullness of time, but if you think socks in bed is acceptable then you are on to a loser.
Not odd at all. I have a great mate who is male. We share certain hobbies and clear off for the day together. I used to stay at his house regularly when I lived in a different part of the country - now he stays here. My OH doesn't think its odd either, he's just pleased we can do our own thing together.

Wow, no dissenting voices!!! I seriously was expecting a slap on the wrist. Thank you all, I was feeling like a real low life! Thankfully now splendidly reassured.
Not weird. My best mate is male. he lives in London, married, 3 kids. When he comes back to town he stays at my house (when I lived alone) His wife never questioned anything. Now he stays with here with me and OH...

My other mate would just climb into my bed when he was tired.
I don't think there is anything wrong with this. As long as you both know where you stand then I don't see a problem. I have always had better friendships with men. My best friends are men and it would never go further.
