... has just rung up and reported her printer as needing a service call. She said "my printer's being a bit gay......" and the operator the other end hit the roof and accused her of homophobia.

I mean, honestly.... ;-(

Apparently this is a modern term for lame or bad.

This is where working in the most un-PC environment in the world works well for me.

Where do you work milly?
i don't know milly, j accused j of having gusset breath earlier she retaliated saying she couldn't have as all she was eating was ar&egrapes, all this as the new boy was waitign for me to sort his security key, the poor soul looked terrfied
I work with for a ductwork company - construction basically so it's all a bunch of blokes who don't care what they say or what anyone else says (within the confines of the office). Being the only female does have it downsides sometimes - they were watching porn in here the other day.
I use to be the only girl as well. Christmas do's were entertaining.

The same colleague who I'm referring to above, used to work - between the age of 18 and 23 at a garage with horny mechanics. They bored a hole in the toilet door so they could peek on her doing her whatnots...... That is so bad.
oh my god, that's horrible. I'm fairly confident the perversions here don't go quite that far.

I think it's just very presumtuous by the operator, for all she knew your young colleague could have been talking about her printer, who may have been a chap, kissing another chap using tongues, which would be a bit gay!

Vibra: she aint that innocent - she was carrying on with the married manager for 3 of those years. He took advantage ;-)

Paul - very good thought process !!
My monitor went poof the other day.
Yes, these printers can act a bit 'Queer' at times salla ! lol
Even in the 90s when I was still teaching, children used the word 'gay' as meaning naff or out of order.
"I might have bu99ered my keyboard" would certainly have excited my IT department.
I don't think what she said was homophobic as it wasn't attaching gay people but i think she could choose her words more carefully.
<<attaching gay people>> like a daisy-chain sort of thing?
maybe that's what WAS up with the printer! On every invoice printed came a picture of Graeme Norton or Alan Carr!
