My right leg is killing me, I have a lot of pain in the back of upper leg, going down to my ankle. My back is a little sore too but not bad. I seen a doctor a week ago about it, and he didnt seam too concerned, said it was a pulled hamstring, but could possibly be a slipped disk. He sent me off with some normal painkillers and said to come back in 6 weeks if its not better.
But it feels like its getting worse, im not even doing anything and the pain is kicking in. Should I go see my doc again? Should I see a different doc? I dont like going to see the doc if its 'nothing' but its starting to get really sore

Sqad if you had looked at the whole thread you will have seen that jp left it about three weeks before seeing a doctor, having seen the doctor and getting a fuzzy diagnosis by all accounts the symptoms have become worse in the week since seeing the doctor. I would think that it is only right that jp should be allowed to seek a second opinion.

As for your comments on all doctors being as good as each other, get real. Lets all go and see Dr Harold Shipman shall we, Medical degree and a licence to kill!!!
House.....in my opinion, she gets a better chance for a Consultant second opinion if she sees her original GP.

<<As for your comments on all doctors being as good as each other, get real. Lets all go and see Dr Harold Shipman shall we, Medical degree and a licence to kill!!!<<<

You judge the quality of the medical profession by quoting the UK´s most prolific serial killer.....and you ask ME to "get real"
there are good and bad doctors as there are in any profession. they are absolutely not all the same and to suggest they are is ridiculous.
some are good doctors but have no idea how to communicate, some are just useless doctors, some are great doctors who are completely on the ball.
we have two young medics in the family, one a niece and one a god-daughter, both near to qualifying as gp's. there is a marked difference between them, i would put my trust in one but not the other.

So why come on AB for medical advice?
"So why come on AB for medical advice?"

For second, third, etc,. others opinions.

And by the way, you knew what I meant so stop pulling my leg. :-)
sqad...why not?
Exactly....why not?

Just the same as in the NHS......"why not"

soc...;-)
Sqad I assess the quality of medical care on the doctor I see, the Shipman point was due to the fact that you said all doctors are as good as each other.

I have seen various doctors during my time in the forces and some I would seek the advice of again and some I would avoid as they know about as much as a first year med student.

I Judge the quality of the medical profession on the treatment I have received over the past 40 odd years of my life.
Sqad people come on AB to talk to others that have been in similar situations and are able to give them some positive advice.

If you have not had experience of the problem then you dont comment on it.

Where did I say that?

That is your opinion..........and you are entitled to it.....others might disagree.

<<<<I Judge the quality of the medical profession on the treatment I have received over the past 40 odd years of my life.<<<<

Perfectly reasonable.
sorry sqad, i really don't follow....
this is a question and answer site, is it not? we ask questions, we get answers. what we do with those answers is up to each individual. i trust your opinion no more than i trust my next door neighbours opinion, knowledgeable as you appear to be.
sometimes it's convenient to ask a quick question here, sometimes it's not. there are many medical questions i don't ask on here as i'm sure you would be aware.

Crap....I assume you mean "personal experience"

I have never had experience of syphilis, pneumonia, gastric surgery, brain tumours, cancer,.....but that doesn´t disqualify me from not commenting on the subjects on AB

I was told by a GP many years ago that my constant loss of blood ( periods of six weeks at a time ) was nothing to worry about and I should "get on with it ".
I sought a second opinion asap and within a few weeks was being operated upon for massive fibroids .
Any pains in the leg should be investigated pronto not left for six weeks .It could be some sort of vein problem ? Be awful if it was a DVT/clot and wasn't investigated pronto .

People should think twice before coming on this site for medical advice. It's all right doling out information that anyone can Google themselves, but when they advise people to take drugs that could interfere with the medication they are already taking, surely that's going too far, and it should be stopped by this site There are people on here who claim to be qualified, some thing that cannot be proved because of the anominity of the advisors. You can call yourselves what you like on here, yours faithfully, Wing Commander Lowry VC, MC, VD and scar
Sqad as you say, nothing stops you from commenting on a subject, however giving helpful advice means looking at the topic and giving an answer based on the facts given and any knowledge you have. If you dont have knowledge/experience of the subject then you are just giving your opinion and not an answer.

Maybe we should have two sites, answer bank for those in the know and opinion bank for those that just want to give their two penniths worth!!!!
