Should this sort of thing been thrown on the scrap heap as soon as Labour were kicked out?

I find it horrifying that this sort of thing is allowed to take place in a so called free country.

This is the type of thing that the Nazis introduced, but that was against all non Aryans and those who criticised the party, children were even encouraged to report their parents and their relatives.

children in primary schools shouldn't know words like 'whitetrash' and '***' if they were brought up properly. I blame the parents using this kind of language.
Children in primary school often have older siblings and cousins. Stop being so naive carol...
They also have other children in their class, who learn words from somewhere and are happy to teach the rest of the school.
Exactly....
Then their parents should have pointed out to them that it was wrong. I caught one of my daughter's friends jusing foul language in the street (she was mortified!), so I explained to her that her Mum would not be impressed (no I didn't shop her to her Mum), but she got the message.
Totally agree AOG - this is simply looking for trouble where none seriosuly exists.

Children mimic the langauge they hear, without necessarily understanding the meaning.

Any teacher who hears inappropriate language should busy themselves educating the children of the way to speak to, and about other people, so that they are aware of offesnive language is - and how it is not nice to use it about others - be they classmates, or indeed anyone.

As you say AOG, this is some kind of perverse PC nazi-ism and should be stamped out forthwith. Who thinks of these things?
this is truely ridiculous, get on with teaching kids and let the kids be kids... dont brand them anything.

And if the parents don't hear it???

My kids don't swear in front of me...but I've heard some pretty bad things said when they don't know I can hear them.
Children pick up all manner of "inappropriate" language from older children, TV, etc.
They may not necessarily understand fully what half of the words mean in context, but recognise them as some form of insult, so use them indiscriminately (I appreciate the irony of that term).
My daughter is 11 and I know she is aware of just about every swear word in common usage. She fortunately also understands that they are not the sort of words she should use. She certainly berates me whenever I let an unintentional expletive slip out.
They know it's wrong Carol, that's why they don't say it in front of you. Well, not when they think you can hear them.

My 9 year old nephew called his 11 year old brother a paediphile a few weeks ago. He clearly has no idea what a paedophile is but he obviously knew it was something bad. He could have picked this word up from anywhere and easily understood that whatever that word means, it isn't a good word so he is going to use it to be nasty to someone. Unfortunately for him, my sister heard him say it.
Exactly, they were told that it was a bad word and they shouldn't use it. Many young children use words they don't understand, but get that the meaning is bad, but at such a young age they shouldn't be penalised or branded for it.
Older children very often do it to look 'cool'.
Indeed nightmare.

i work with telecoms engineers, so the langauge can often be quite immoderate, and i freely join in - but i never use those phrases at home, and my daughters were brought up with the knowledge of language in its time and place.

However, a lot of children do pick up inappropriate expressions, and lack the maturity to understand the concept of time and place. it is the role of teachers to educate them in these areas - not to compile lists for future reference like some sub-branch of the Gestapo!

The whole thing beggars belief!
I think this is a typical Daily Mail evocative report, it doesn't really say what the register is used for, merely what it could be used for which, in reality, if a University refuses admission to a student on the basis of name calling aged 6 then it'smore to do with the admissions board of that University than the scheme. If it's used to monitor behaviour patterns then I'd agree with it, such name calling is bullying and bullying should be managed. It should, of course, be an indication of where further education in such matters is required.
Children will repeat at school what they hear at home. If they swear and blaspheme they should get into trouble. If they are racist or homophobic, they should get into trouble.

I don't believe that is the last Labour Government that bad behaviour is noted. When I was at school 40 years ago, we got into trouble for those sorts of things.

Unfortunately, the parents of many youngsters will swaer, be racist and homophobic, and the children need to be taught that that is not acceptable at school and society at large.
this go the way of ASBO's; to some parents, their child being on 'the register' will be like a badge of honour.
Yes Gromit, 40 years ago I too would ahve got into trouble for this, but the big difference is that neither you nor I were put on a central register. It is the last Labour Government, obsessed with controlling and spying on the masses that introduced this. They ran the country not dissimilar to the Nazi's and I am very dissapointed Cameron is dragging his heals in undoing the mess and returning freedom to the British citizen. I know he has had the biggest econimic mess to sort out - courtesy of Labour (hit 1 Trillion debt yesterday) but he has plenty of subordinates who can unravel the control culture.
sorry to change the subject, aog, but I wondered if you'd seen this

It seems to relate to a question you asked a while back (and got some rather dismissive answers to).
Amazed that the Peter Tatchell's of this world haven't campaigned for the age of criminal responsibility abolished altogether - after all, it was he and his ilk who pressurised the establishment into lowering the age of consent for homosexuals.
On a bit of a mission, today, ETY ?

He lobbied for *equality* of the Age of Consent.
