I've got a stinker. In my ears, nose, throat and chest. Ache all over and hardly slept a wink due to having to constantly blow my nose.

But in the wee small hours I started thinking

WHY do your lips go so dry when you have a cold? and

WHERE does all this mucus (sorry to be indelicate) actually come from?

lips go dry because you breath through your mouth. Mucus is how the body gets rid of dead white cells which fight the virus.
Same here Barmaid - I have been full of cold since Christmas Day - Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer is alive and well and sneezing in Essex.

Interesting Woofgang. In that case, I must surely be at death's door since I don't think I have any white blood cells left!!!!

Mine only kicked in yesterday Den. If it is the same one the FH had, I think it will be fairly short lived but pretty vicious while it's here.
"Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer is alive and well and sneezing in Essex. "

What about his non Germanic cousin from Lapland called Rudolph?

(sorry)
I've got one coming, and the crown came off one of my front teeth on Boxing Day - dentist not there until tomorrow, and I can't say anything with "f". Am I sorry for myself? - just a bit ;-)
I always get mine a week before when I haven't finished my shopping. My mum used to tell me mucus was all the dead soldiers (goodies and baddies) that have been fighting the infection

OH is getting better from it now - we swear by liberal applications of Beechams All in One, certainly does the trick for us.
You think you've got it bad, I actually HAVE to go to the shops and buy shoes. I've been putting it off for ages but I think I really need to do it now so I will be venturing in to the christmas sales.... I'd rather have a cold. :c(

Boxy, that sounds grim.

Although I am sorry, I laughed at your "not being able to say anything with an eff".

I've been popping the Beechams All in One too. They are quite good. If I could bear to go to the shops I'd get some of that new cough medicine I've seen advertised (which I did see a thread about on here) but whose name I can't remember.

China - do you actually NEED shoes? Ie do you not have a single pair you could wear? I have to say, I'd rather have a cold than do shoe shopping in the sales.

FH is going out in a mo so when I have dropped him off (with instructions NOT to be late back and NOT to be too pissed since I am likely to have a sense of humour failure) I am going to curl up on the sofa with a duvet, some cats and some crap TV.
well put the Beeb on and watch Just William, I am hoping it is going to be the TV highlight of the week, it has no competition anyway lol
Me too barmaid, it's amazing how quickly you forget you have a witchy gap at the front, and leer unbecomingly at people! Thankfully it doesn't hurt but it is a Pain - I keep getting biscuit stuck in the gap.
We were briefly in the sales yesterday, and went out for beer for New Year today - don't even attempt M&S china, it's full of people buying things willy nilly.
The only shoes that fit me comfortably are my wellies.. my feet shrunk :c( I don't really see a way around it.

I have a game plan of the shops I will look in and a fully charged ipod with earfones that let in no external noise.

If I have a bad head cold and trouble getting to sleep I use Night Nurse liquid. Tastes disgusting but works for me.
Barmaid, I sympathise with you, I feel a sorry wretch today too.I can't remember when I last had a cold but I've certainly got one today. I blame my S in L he had a stinker when he stayed over xmas.
My throat and chest are soo sore & I've started to cough and it really hurts my chest. I ache too all over. I've been to bed once but can't sleep. Haven't any Lem-sip but have got lemons so will make hot drink and take some Paracetamol.
Am feeling real sorry for myself.

Hope everyone improves soon. -- Jem
A hot curry will do wonders to clear nose. Have it for lunch or dinner tomorrow.
It's a nasty bug but mercifully short-lived - I think the dentist drilled it out of me LOL..
