You and your anti English mates can celebrate now with a glass of organic lentil juice well done, you have full permission to look smug.

There is a nation that can hold the world cup tomorrow v one that hasn't got a decent stadium anywhere, which one wins? how can that not be bent?

Are you looking forward to the 2022 World Cup in the Middle East? - Should be fun!
You sound like a bitter Geezer. Try some organic lentil juice from a mug. ;-)
I don't imagine Panorama helped much to be honest...
as I just posted on another thread, it went to the country with the tamest press. No Fifa exposes out of Moscow.
If we'd hope that the English way of playing (evident at the last world cup) was so crap could be over-rided by home advantage its one good reason it went elsewhere.

Is it a requirement of being English to like football now?
I am, and I don't
^^Me too, and neither do I.
Your mates at the BBC helped to swing it Geezer

we've done all we can I hope to again feel the joy I felt when we won the Olympics unfortunately it's bent so it'll probably go to the ruskies.

Why so negative about the Olympics Gromit?

Is it just me or is 2022 just a little too far in the future to be planning such big events? Quite a lot can happen in 12 years as recent history has demonstrated. Twelve years ago, we were in 1998 and who could have predicted then the world recession, 9/11, 7/7, the second gulf war, etc.

It seems to me that planning such a massive event so far in the future is a big gamble. I can't help but feel that very large, but very discreet, brown envelopes have been involved...
by doing two at once they did open the way for a lot of you-scratch-my-back-I'll-scratch-yours behaviour over who'd back which bid in which year.

what you are saying gromit is that it went to the country that is equally ridden with bribery and corruption that just happen to control their media.
The BBC helped blow it big time
Turn the question round:

we don't need a country ready to host 2018 tomorrow - the clue is in the name 'World Cup 2018'.

why put the WC in a country where everything is already there when you can invigorate the game in one of the biggest developing economies by creating an entire infrastructure over the next 7 years?

And the Qatar bid takes the competition into ME for the first time, the tournament will uniquely be in a concentrated area and then several african countries will benefit with new stadia.

This strategic thinking (right or wrong) follows on naturally from the SA tournament.

I would have been more disappointed and suspicious if we'd lost out to another of the 'old guard' such as Spain/Portugal
.
It isn't the losing, its the manner if that lose.

And if the cost of a World cup is a free press, i'll take the free press.

FIFA is bent, not because of Russia but Quatar how can country that has one major city, a population of 1,7m and has never qualified for a WC finals get it.

The political ramifications to come are immense, what happens to Jewish supporters who want to go? What happens if Israel qualify? They say people will drink, what happens to those who are drunk in the streets? Are Women allowed to go if so under what restrictions? I can see some Brazillian ladies getting arrested.

And before someone says you have to abide by a countries rules, I agree entirely, thats why Australia should have got it.
It isn't the losing, its the manner OF that lose.
huh...should have went to the keltic countries...Scotland,Ireland,Wales...maybe rven Cornwall and the Isle of man...
That is Cracking plan Wshee9. Instead of the 3 Lions (David C, David B and P Williiam (shome mistake shurely)) we could inflict Nigel Mansell, Max Boyce and Gordon Brown on them. A 3 hour video of Runrig Live, a recital of Sectarian folksongs from Glasgow Cathedral and a free pIssup at Barrowlands on a Friday night for all FIFA World Cup Voters.

We can't lose!!
and a night out with the BNP for Jack Warner
