Reading the shampoo post I starting wondering if there was conditioner when I was younger. I dont remember mum washing my hair with it, just shampoo. And I'm sure that the combing of my hair wouldnt have been as painful as I remember? Was it just coz I was a child or was conditioner not about then? (about 25 years ago) I also remember going swimming with the school and I'd forgot my shampoo and gave me some of hers and it was 2 in one. First time I's used conditioner.

You're right, we just had shampoo when we were kids. I think it was painful - it was combs rather than brushes which were used, and I seemed to get a lot of tangles. I can't think of the last time I used a comb!
no I don;t think there was conditioner available to buy over the counter before they started marketing henna conditioners in the late 1970s. The main one on sale was something barrel, can't remember it's name now,
I think that conditioner was probably available then, but not widely used!..........my daughter had very long hair, and it used to tangle when washed, I used to buy leave in conditioner from Avon for her hair............it worked well..............don't think I used it though!.............
Conditioner isn't needed on natural hair, its mainly for tinted & permed hair.

wash and go 2 in one conditioner seemed to make it 'big' nefore actual seperate conditioner did. But even now I dont think alot of mothers use conditoner on small children. I just remember winging when mum washed my hair on a sunday night and sat me down to an agonising combing session.

And that I's was a mistype, I know I was born in Norfolk but I dont speak that bad lol
I use conditioner (or if I've got some, that 2-in-1 stuff) on my eldest daughter's hair (it's curly and down to her bum when it's wet) and have done for as long as I can remember (even as a toddler) and I use it on my youngest daughter's hair too (she's 2 and her hair is 'wild).
I only had shampoo when I was little. Didn't start using a conditioner till I was in my early teens.
We never had conditioner, I don't remember having shampoo when I was young either. My younger sister had very curly hair, it was murder for her when she had to have it combed when wet. You've got me thinking now when I actually first bought shampoo and conditioner.
Conditioner helps with untangling curly hair on younguns.

4get, I'm allergic to soap on my face, baby wipes are a good face cleanser.
Hi Jaydah - I never put soap on my face, not because I am allergic, but because I don't want it to go in my eyes.
Conditioner was about long before the 2 in 1 stuff, but I think most folk just didn't use it till perms hit it big and it became essential. I didn't use conditioner most of the time when I was young but it was more that it was an expensive luxury. We only ever got it when the 'dawn fresh' guys came round the doors selling huge vats of shampoo and conditioner dead cheap - it smelled awful though :)
I remember magazine adverts for Vitapointe, a comb-in conditioner.. ("isn't your squeaky-clean hair really crying out for help?") in the mid-70's, it was quite a new idea I think.
What about, "Friday night is Amami night". There's going back some!
Always used conditioner as far as I remember and I'm not much younger than you.
Conditioner used to be called cream rinse.

I can remember my mum buying a new product called hair conditioner around 1972
Which twin is wearing the Toni? Dare you to give your age away.
