My hairdresser friend told me years ago that shampoo is basically a detergant and it didn't matter what you used, even fairy liquid, you'd get the same result. It was the conditioner that made the difference . Yesterday's Daily Mail agreed with the shampoo part, but what about the conditioner?

Some are better than others...
my oh has washed his hair with unperfumed bath soap for the last 4 years and his hair looks fine and it always has a shine.
I never use conditioner..................just shampoo and then put on Frizz Ease.
Agree with the shampoo bit. When I was a kid with a saturday job at a hairdressers the owner always told me expensive shampoo is a con. You are better off buying cheap own brand as they don't put expensive, pointless ingredients in. I am not entirely sure about conditioner but I believe one of the many ingredients is basically plastic, which is why your hair looks smooth and shiny. I am yet to believe anything really does your hair any good, all the hair you can see on your head is dead hair. You can't fix something that is dead.
the hair might not mind washing up liquid, but when i tried it once, my scalp certainly minded it!!
I've just started using Liz Earle's new range of shampoo and conditioner. I can never normally use any type of conditioner, as my hair is very straight and conditoner just makes it drop and lank.

Am using the Shampoo for Normal hair plus conditioner - it leaves my hair feeling great and squeaky clean. Here is the link

thanks, might try it, I am a long time cleanse and polish girl but have had to give up her moisturiser as it stopped agreeing with my skin. I've got M and S pound a bottle s and c at the moment and its excellent value.
The conditioner you get with Nice & Easy hair dye is really good.
woolfy - I use Liz Earle Superskin Moisturiser - love all her products but not that keen on the new perfume.
I use any old shampoo and Frizzease .
I got Timotei today in Morrisons :Three bottlles for two quid :)
They reckon we shampoo too much and should ideally just rinse our hair everyday as daily washing strips the natural oils and shampoo it less often .
I don't fancy that as I look as if I've had a fright of a morning and need to wash mine every day .
Who are these people who get up and just brush their hair and it looks fab :)
i look like a baglady who hasn't washed for a year if I don't wash my hair daily...Den i like the new perfume too but it doesn't like me. Can't use the superskin moisturiser because to me it smells funny :-( I love the superskin concentrate though.
I usually buy whatever shampoo is on offer in Boots, though i usually steer clear of Head & Shoudlers as my hairdresser told me it's especially bad for coloured hair. I like to use Aussie 3 minute miracle reconstructor for when my ends get dry, and as my hair's dyed red, and red fades terribly i often clean my hair with Batiste in between proper washes.
I'm with shaney on this....
in a typical bloke way I use whatever is on offer at the time, which appears to be tresemme at the moment (I had to go and look to check what it was!)
I wash mine with a shampoo for coloured hair (it does prolong the colour, and not strip it as some shampoos do) then also Frizz Ease it.
sara(h)... are you still washing all that hair in the sink or is your bathroom now sorted?
Lanolin, in conditioner, is important for coloured/permed/straightened hair to keep it supple and maintain elasticity, else it could split or snap off.

Washing detergents could set up dandruff as they contain bleach. Most shampoos are perfumed, hence the price. You do want your hair smelling nice ?
I use John Frieda - and Frizze ease - but never a conditioner as my hair just goes lank if I do.
i have to use head and shoulders shampoo or i get dry scalp. I guess people that dont have sensitive skin can use anything. I cant even use soap on my face.
I'd been using various cheap shampoos & developed a really itchy scalp so I tried Boots Expert dry scalp shampoo & it worked straight away so I've stayed with it. I always use Charles Worthington full volume conditioner & I'd say my hair's the only thing that's in the right place in a morning :o)
