Interesting question but very difficult to answer - there is no way you can 'know' something is going to be better but obviously if experience #1 was horrendous (abuse, violence, drugs etc) then surely one would hope that experience #2 or 3 would be better but I don't see how you can really tell. Another pont is some people seem to be attracted to a 'type of person' which is not always to their advantage.
Yes. I had a youthful first marriage - we were far too young....plus he was a prat.

My top tip for serial brides/grooms would be always marry someone with the same forename as your ex then you can never slip up calling them by the wrong name.
It worked for me.
"Are you on your second or even third ?"

I was about to reply that I'm on my fourth, till I realised this wasn't about drink.
One of my mates was married 5 times........
Blimey Craft - she must have been really fond of wedding cake
My second is already behind me although I don't count my first as it was my 6th form boyfriend and all over before I was 23. I'm not sure you can compare them until they are in the past.

oh craft, maybe she just likes a party !
Not really mrs_o she was just unlucky. Lovely looking girl, intelligent, hard-working, great mother but no luck with men. She'd dead now bless her......
I've always vowed that if this marriage goes down the pan I will be looking for a convent with a bar
No chance mrs_o - but monks do produce great brandy ;o)
mrs_o my third was the best of the lot......
Evening all - I'm on No. 2 - No. 1 was a youthful venture but lasted a long time. No 1 and then some years on my own showed me the sort of things I'd NOT be looking for IF I met a second husband. Certainly I'm me this time round, and not someone else's doormat.
Married just the once, anne......in 1992........just celebrated 18 years in August. She's pretty special to me. :0)

.......but i was engaged a couple of times before i met her in 1989, and believe me, had some real bunny boilers in my time.

And was lucky to have gone out with some really nice ladies i'm still in contact with to this day, as they are part of my life..... and friends always for that amount of time too. Some have married/got partners/divorced and moved on to have great lives and i wish all the best for you too, anne :0) xx

well thank you yogi, that was a nice thing to say.
I'm on my first - twenty-four years and counting ...

The present Mrs Hughes is on her second - first lasted 8 years - but produced two wonderful daughters which I inherited, and added one more on.
Two down for me too. Very bad experience with the second (our children excepted). Hopefully she'll die a slow and painful death...
Not a nice thing to say dos. Onwards and upwards should be the motto.
I'm on my third and he's still not annoyed me enought yet to kick him out ;o)

ps. you dont, you just have to hope that experience gives you a bit of an edge
I made the mistake of marrying too young at 21 and got divorced after 3 years of hell, but am now in our 44th year of complete and loving marriage, and still have a snog several times every day.
Hm. I don't think you can predict whether its going to be better really. I am in my 4th marriage and I think I will hang on to this one coz he's brilliant!! The first one was a so called 'shotgun wedding' and we were both far too young. No. 2 buzzed off with another woman, 3 was 17 years younger than me and after a few years, the age difference became a problem for both of us (and we were also both going through mental health issues).
I am friends with 2 of my exes and my husband gets on well with them too which is great.
It was very hard for me to commit to my present marriage (sort of thrice bitten..etc) but I am so glad we persevered because we have a great relationship which, although it has its bad patches, is very special.
I hope things go well for you Anne x
