Need some help to settle a disagreement. One says you need to eat fruit & veg to be healthy, another says you don't need veg if you eat a wide range of fruit. Who is correct?

Technically, no diet that excludes one of the food groups is balanced, and there are certain minerals that are in certain veg that are not found in fruit, but saying that, if a wide range of fruit is eaten, at least say 8 varieties you shouldn't do too badly, but you might find yourself lacking in Iron from the lack of leafy green veg
Well they say eat 5 portions of fruit and veg. so I'd say you need both. 5 portions of fruit will give you vitamins but also sugars whereas veg. contains different kinds of vitamins to fruit and minerals and a lot less sugar.
If someone really hates veg. then 5 fruits would be better than just 1 or 2.
