A couple of questions here, firstly, is it an existing hair that turns grey, or does a new hair of grey colouring grow?

Secondly, why does hair turn grey? I know that age, stress etc are given as reasons, but what exactly is it that makes hair turn grey?

It is the exising hair that turns grey, main reason for it is as you grow older your body stops producing certain things and the pigment in your hair (which is naturally red) does not get produced anymore therefore turning the hair grey/white

From my experience, I had noticed a few hairs coming through which were paler than the rest. They kind of glinted. So I plucked them out! And then when the new ones grew, they were white. They are never grey, just colourless. It's as if the pigment has run out, like in your printer!! And then it starts to run out on more hairs, until most have no pigment. And then you have white hair!

one way to look at it is that hair is naturally white and it is the presence of pigment that makes it appear coloured (like water is naturally clear, but turns coloured if you add pigment) so... I am not going grey, just reverting to my natural colour!!!
I'll second that woofgang!
Give it a bit longer and it goes completely transparent like mine!
What a good excuse for bald men 'My hair has gone transparent'
Yes, male pattern baldness is simply hilarious!
I wasn't making a joke against bald men soupspoon and I apologise if you thought I was.  I was just adding a light comment to the general frivolity about grey hair and ageing.
