can anyone recommend a hair colouring kit?

OK apologies its not in the Body & SOul section... but I thought I might get speedier responses from you lovely lot in here!
Not dyed my hair at home since a tragic mistake in my youth... and wanted to try going from current bog standard brown) to a richer brown.
Was thinking of trying Garnier Nutrisse (a la Davina McCall)
Anyone got any recommendations to make for products?

Yes, a lot of people recommend Clairol.

Although, your own, natural colour usually suits you best.

Mine is a wonderful shade of ... err ... "mousey"

I read some bad things on the t'internet about Garnier.. so might go with clairol instead...
Can I ask what colour you have used in the past - blonde/brown/red??

Yes. I know natural is best - but GREY isnt!!!! They look horrid and I'm only 35 (OK OK 36 tomorrow!)

the grey wont cover well with counter-bought colors....it needs salon treatment.

Grey hair covers fine, sorry Tambo to disagree but ive been colouring my own hair for years, and sadly i've had grey hair for alot longer and ive never had any problems with shop bought dyes.

I cover grey with shop bought dyes fine too. Also use clairol and have use various red/brown to brown shades.

My grey bits cover perfectly well with a shop bought dye too.I've been using Perfect 10 by Clairol .Does what it says on the box .Ten minutes ,no more grey.Though I have short hair ,might take a tad longer for long hair though .It's great because it's got a comb on the applicator and you don't have to faff about with rubber gloves ,just comb it through.

My grey bits now blend in with my highlights, so they don't really notice as grey. However, I only at the moment have grey bits. All I would suggest is that you don't go darker than your original natural colour, grey roots look dreadful.

I used to use Recital which covered my grey, now I go to the hairdresser, Im really grey now and worried that i'ill go orange if I use home colouring. Suppose if you use a brown shade with no red/auburn in it it would be ok,

I use Garnier Nutrisse and it's fine for me.

once you start with permanent colour you'll need to be re-doing your roots every 4-6 weeks :o/

I think I've used just about every dye and every colour under the sun and i'd say go for garnier nutrisse - it covers grey and it doesn't fade as quickly as most of the others I've tried, and it does leave your hair feeling soft and shiny, just like Davina promises :)
