Isn't this proof that having different associations (ie NAMP, NBPA and others), in our police service just doesn't work, they only go towards increased diversity in the service.

Gromit, always the same comment, The question is a valid one, if they all want to be treated the same as everyone else why have an association for Muslims or blacks or any other for that matter.
Is this question a wind-up?
Surely if there was a national association of white police then it would be banned for being not politically correct! I'm not racist but surely equality is equality and those associations are descriminating which is against the law
There are white Muslims (try Bosnia), it's a creed not a race, I'm undecided of the need for such an association, now.
But, in the past the racism within the police has been appalling so an organisation was needed to promote the views and platforms of these minorities, to stand up for them in cases of discrimination and to promote the need and benefits of an inclusive police force to ethnic minorities.
The fact that we can now question the need for them is a testament to their own success.

Perhaps I should have used a different headline, but one assumed that posters would read the link before commenting.

/// The National Association of Muslim Police (NAMP) claimed that ministers were wrong to blame Islam for being the “driver” behind recent terrorist attacks ///

/// Muslim police officers have rebelled openly against the Government’s anti-terrorism strategy, warning that it is an “affront to British values” which threatens to trigger ethnic unrest. ///
Yes there are white muslims but there are not white black people! Any organisation that was intended purely for white people would be banned under the race descrimination laws. surely the formation of a group purely for any race or creed is descrimiation and therefore illegal. These are just the sort of things that cause segregation, the minorities get preference on application to the police force and allowed to adapt the uniform to suit their religeous beliefs despite the whole point of the uniform is to make everyone appear the same and therefore not leave anyone open to descrimination! I'm sorry but the clue is in the name, Minority!

Not correct actually. Neither police association ban non-Muslims or non-blacks. Only the BNP banned everyone who wasn't white.
they only go towards increased diversity in the service

and, er, that's a bad thing?
They should have no associations within the force, except the "Lets stop fannying about with PC cobblers and nick some villains" - Association.
Why does everyone jump straight on the BNP band waggon! If this association was for white officers then it would be banned weather it excluded anyone or not. These groups are racist, and should not be allowed but they are because it's positive racism!
There is the Christian Police Association
http://www.cpauk.net/

There is the Jewish Police Association
http://www.jewishpoliceassociation.org.uk/

So, why therefore should there not be an Association of Muslim Police Officers?

If you think having a Muslim Association is divisive, would you also ban the Christian Police Association for the same reason?
where did anyone say anything about not banning the christian or any other groups? the NAMP &NBPA were named and discussed, I don't think there should be any segregation of religeous groups and the police as a whole should unite to promote diversity. Surely uniting as one group is better than creating an us and them situation.

Why should separate associations be allowed to interfere politically with a law enforcement force?

The law is for the protection of the state, and the service that is there to enforce it, should not contain individual groups that are allowed to question the law according to their own agendas.
Well said

//Why should separate associations be allowed to interfere politically with a law enforcement force? //

Because they have been invited to do so. They were asked for their views by a parliamentary committee investigating extremism. They are not trying to interfere, they are answering a consultation by MPs who have asked for their input.

From your Telegraph link:
//The comments, made in a seven-page memorandum to a parliamentary committee investigating extremism.//
Surely there would be much more finger pointing and resentment when they do havetheir little group. the racists and homophobes need to be educated and if they see segregation then their views are simply going to continue unchecked! they should unite under 1 banner, 1 uniform and get some solidarity!
