My poor neighbour John is 76 and has a problem with itchy eyes. Not the actual eye, but underneath (the eye bag area). They are really swollen and sore. The GP did give him some cream and said it was an allergy to his rimless glasses that are relatively new and also a form of dermatitis. He changed his glasses and the cream seemed to do the trick. Unfortunately now the problem has returned. Someone said he may need a titanium framed glasses.

Has anybody else had this problem. I gave him some cucumber this after to put on his eyes to try and give him some relief.

Don't wear glasses, but it is indeed a common problem.

DEN....next time, remember to cut the cucimber up in slices and use those. John looks stupid with a cucumber on his face.

Tell John to use plastic frames if he's allergic to metal.

Funny you should say that Sqad - when I said to John this morning, you need some cucumber - he said but I don't like cucumber, it gives me wind!!! Bless him - I said you plonker on your eyes, not to eat............ I cut some up and gave it to his wife this afternoon for him.

Tambo - it was originally the framless glasses that caused the problem (or so the GP said). I think lenses are plastic, arn't they ? He has been putting E45 cream on his face and under his eyes, which I said was'nt a good idea, as the skin under the eyes is very thin and fragile and I think E45 may be too harsh.

Mr. Den has just asked me why we have'nt got any cucumber on our salad tonight - doh !!! - should I tell him John is wearing it as an eye mask ?????????
DEN....E45 is mild.....John needs hydrocortisone cream.

What is Mr. DEN getting tonight ????????
That is NOT a cucumber in his pocket. LOL
Question Author
Well it definately won't be cucumber on his salad Sqad -

And as for what is in his pocket - well last time I felt, it was his wallet !!!!!!! ha ha ha
The polycarbonate lenses use in rimless glasses are a common polycarbonate used in a variety of everyday products and surely the glasses where fitting so they weren't touching the bags under his eyes. If they were they would be sat at a funny angle and could simply be adjusted so as not to touch his skin.

This obviously could be a form of contact dermatitis or he may have a form of blepharitis.
Cold tea-bags on the eyes for ten minutes will help reduce inflammation and tired eyes.
carlton....the cold tea bags.....do you dip them in cold water OR do you use hot water as you do in making tea and then wait for them to get cold?
Question Author
I think you wait for them to cool down Sqad - if you put them under cold water, you would wash away the cooling affect of them. ............... I think . !!
Question Author
Actually york, I thought the same thing - the glasses were not touching under his eye area, and could'nt understand how he would be allergic to them.
