Swelling over the kidney area

My friend (66) is recovering from shingles and has a swelling over the area where the spots were. But the doc says this swelling has nothing to do with shingles. It is on his side, around kidney area. Any clues?

Have I? You may be right, I cannot remember. I would still welcome replies from people who may not have seen it the first time. He is going for a scan on Monday and is really worried.
Herpes Zoster, may be a disorder in it's own right, but occasionally it heralds the prescence of an underlying disease.

The swelling in the kidney area has to be identified and the MRI scan should do that.
