This question came to mind when I was watching Mrs Obama this week. For the past few years I've been struggling to keep my figure, notably a waistline. This week I've notice Michele Obama wears a girdle. My question to you ladies out there over 40; do you wear a girdle? If I discover that the majority of women over 40 wear a girdle I'm going to have a party!! and eat what I want...

you must be joking!!!

sorry, not me :o/
How do you know could you see the outline? Maybe it was those spandex thingeys
Leg and nobbs wear a girdle underneath their cowboy/zorro costumes.
Coccinelle no and I'm over 50. No wonder she looks thin.
no way, we put on a bit of weight as we get older to cushion our bones thats my theory
If you wear a girdle and you are plump, you will have rolls of fat above and below the girdle, so you still can't eat what you like.

So I'll just have to stick with a low calorie diet and do the exercises...
caththecrazy: yes, it was one of those things that go down mid thigh.
barry: they say if it isn't too tight that doesn't happen
57 years old and no girdle thank you.
I am over 60 and with some clothes I would not be without my *Spanx* magic knickers. Best invention ever !

If a pair of spandex knickers is all that she needs to look like that she doesn't really need them.
We call them 'Gok Socks' ourselves.... First saw them on Gok, and never looked back. I think everyone should have one, they're fab for when you know you're not going to want to actually remember to suck in your tum all night. As has been said, get one that fits and you won't have rolls above or below and you will still be able to breathe/eat/drink. Going to the loo can be a slight logistical problem, but what the heck.

What or who is Gok nicecupoftea? yes please I'd love one.
You've never heard of Gok! He's the ultimate. Tells you how you look in the most flattering way possible. And then how to make yourself a little bit better. Gok Soks. Nylon body tubes. If you get them in the right size theyre fab. When you go to the shop that sells them, e.g. John Lewis, ignore the sizes and get the one up if its Spandex. If its John Lewis own size, stick with that as theyre OK.
I'm 29 and I just bought a girdly thing from M&S - it's a 'waist cincher'.

It really works - a male friend who never Ever notices this sort of thing asked me if I'd lost weight!

So whenever I wear something close fitting like skinny jeans, I put the cincher on.

The only thing is, it's a bit uncomfortable under the boobs, and it was ridiculously expensive - 32 :o(
Surely it works the same way as a balloon, you squeeze one end and all the air goes to the other...come on ladies, you must know that?
Yeah Elvis it works that way if you are overweight, but I'm a 12. I'm just a bit, er, flabby.

It smooths out your shape but it isn't gonna make you thinner overall.

It's a redistribution rather than a reduction. But I still got a compliment, so I'm more than satisfied!.
