I am lying in bed and got an itch on the left handside of my rib-cage and I have felt a lump. Its around the size of a golfball and not painful but its there. I will make an appointment with my doc tomorrow but I dont want to waste his time. Anyone got any ideas what this can be? I know it seems a stupid question and no doubt the "others" wil come on and do their worst, but I'm having a slight panic!

Breath easy and try not to panic and be assured you will be wasting noones time by making an appointment. A golfball is pretty large so if has come up suddenly probab;y a cyst but go tomorrow please .

Good luck Mamyax
Whatever it is you need to get it checked out immediately.

Going to your doc straight away is exactly what you should do.

Hopefully it is nothing serious, but if it is the sooner it is caught the better.
Sounds odd to me.....size of a golfball and you have just found it?
Is it hard or soft?
Is it mobile. can you move it about or is it ayyached to the skin?
Question Author
Its a hard lump squad. It feels like its attached to my ribcage...sounds bizarre I know. Yes I have just found it...don'tnow why that soundsodd to you. Anyway, I have booked my appointment for tomorrow morning. Thanks for your replies. x
You wont be wasting his time, that's what he's there for. All the best x
You've done the right thing by getting an appointment as soon as you found it. xx
abbie....it sounded odd for a lump to get the size of a golf ball, before someone noticed it.

Best of luck.
abbie have you been to docs yet?

Hi 4get, I went this morning, the doc isnt sure what it is so i am being sent for an ultrasound scan. I am very pleased to say she thinks its totally benign and she mentioned it couldbe a lymphoma....although I have just looked it up on Wikipedia and its saying its the opposite of what she told me! I think I'll stay off Wikipedia from now on!!

Anyway, thank you all for your answers. I appreciated it very much x
It is very easy for people to tell you not to panic. You are doing the right thing by going to the docs and getting an ultrasound. As a breast cancer survivor I have some idea what you are going through. I hope that your diagnosis is benign. However, if it is something bad there are many people there to help you. Can I recommend the Macmillan website for advice and there is also a forum for chat. Modern medicine is advancing in leaps and bounds. I am sending lots of good wishes your way. XX

bimbo that is so sweet, thank you.

I think I just paniked(sp) when I felt it and immediately decided the worst! I feel very foolish now, but I am glad I had it checked out as I am one of these people who would sweep it under the carpet! I know many people will think I am an over-reacting drama queen...actually, maybe I am! Anyway, everything is fine and I'll get the scan she thinks in a weeks time.

Thanks for taking the time to reply and I hope you are keeping well.

Abs xx
Take care abbie you are in good hands and when you go to appointments ask ask ask, information is power. Am sure you will be fine. Thinking of you.

Doubt that she said Lymphoma, youmust have misundehe probably said lymph gland.

We are no further forward with diagnosis yet.

My suggestion....do not go to any sites that involve cancer etc as they will not be appropriate for you at the moment.

I find it difficult to believe that it is a Lymphona and you have done your self no favours in Googling it.

My guess....totally benign.
Why? because it was so large.
My final thought.........it is an OSTEOMA.
Many types, but ALL benign.
Question Author
Yeah, thanks squad, i know what she said. She defnately didnt say lymph gland. i'm not stupid. I didn't go on a site about cancer, I went on Wikipedia ffs, and looked up Lymphoma. Anyway,i'm not so worried about it anymore after her sayin it was benign. so thanks for taking the time to reply.
Just revisited your post. Could it be a "Lipoma". My dog had a massive one under his front leg. It grew very quickly and when I found it I panicked. It never bothered him and he died at the grand old age of 14.

I always think that going to a doctor and getting a diagnosis (even a bad one) is much better than all the possibilities that we can conjure up in our imagination.
wolf...this is important....is the lump rock hard or firm? If it is either of the two. it CANNOT be a lipoma.
Question Author
Thanks Wolf, I did go to the docs...she said Lymphoma but at the same time said she really dint know what it was and wated me to go for an ultrasound...thats all I can tell you at the mo. My ultrasound scan is a week on Monday so its obviously nothing serious or they would have rushed it so I'm not as worried as I was the other day! lol I think I just over-paniked!! (as all women do!! LOL)

Squad it is a rock-hard lump....I understand by not seeing it, its difficult to know what i is..the only way i can describe it is, its as though there is a golf ball stuck to my ribcage...its not protruding much but if I stood facing you, you would see one side has a lump. Its not painful, butits there and its bothering me! lol

Anyway, thanks again.
Well it is NOT a lipoma.

The scan is important.

My guess is still OSTEOMA.
abbie - good luck with the scan.
