Skin Tag removal

I have some skin tags on my neck, which I would like removed. I've had a look on a few healthcare sites, who all recommend cutting them off yourself, but I would imagine that would hurt, cause bleeding and possible infection.

Does anyone know is this can be done by a GP at the surgery and how it is done? I really wouldn't want to do it myself.

Thanks

You shouldnt cut them off as yes that would cause bleeding. Best way to get rid is to tie string around them and cut off circulation and eventually they will drop off. Although may not look too cool on your neck. Maybe wear a scarf for a bit :-)
I had one on my lower back and my GP cut it off with a local anaesthetic and a few stiches. Apparenlty any scarring will vanish after a couple of years, but be aware, the area will not tan evenly until the scar tissue has been replaced by normal skin.
not string thread :-)
My doctors have a day surgery every Tuesday where you can skin tags/moles removed.

Thanks everyone, I will ask at my surgery.
Hi Velvetee
I had a few done at the doctors, where they sprayed some icy cold stuff on them (think it may have been liquid nitrogen) and eventually the litle skin tags turned black and fell off.
I think most surgeries can do this. Failing that they can refer you to an outpatient dermatology clinic where this can be carried out as well.
I would not recommend tying a string round them and please dont cut them off.
velvetee.....if I remember rightly, you are of Caribbean origin?

The best way is to have them excised but you may be more predisposed to keloid formation. It shouldn't be a big deal, but just a thought.
My own doctor told me about the tying metthod - it woked, no problems.

I twist mine clockwise 3 times then anti clockwise 3 times, leave overnight then repeat. Just like the cotton, twisting the tag cuts off circulation and the tag drops off.
I used to get them and couldn't help but pull them and twist them. I never pulled one off. They disappeared eventually. I got one stuck on a polo neck jumper and it got pulled off when I took off my jumper once.

Ooh was that really painful?
I had a very small one and i picked it off and it didnt stop bleeding for days!!!!
I had a couple under my arm .Like huge Rice Krispies .
Doctor froze them and snipped them off on ...No problem.
. . .Don't fiddle about with bits of cotton or attempt to to snip them yourself . Go to the doctor .
They deal with this sort of thing all the time .
