It is first of all necessary to know which of you owns the property. Do you know how it is entered on the Land Registry - your name, your ex-husband's name or  joint names?
Question Author
My ex-husband has the papers, but he told me that we have joint names on the Land Registry.

Under the circumstances it is necessary for you to check what your ex-husband has told you. Please go to this link http://www.landregisteronline.gov.uk/servlet/TitleSearchServlet

and fill in the details (don't worry if you do not know the title number, the address and postcode will work fine). It costs 2 by debit/credit card, and you wish to see  the register. Print off a copy for future reference. Please then either confirm that it is in fact in your joint names or post here what name/names you have seen, and I will continue.
