I've been reading about the benefits of OIL PULLING whereby you swish a tablepoon full of oil in your mouth for 10 minutes and then spit it out.

It's claimed it has many many health benefits.............

anyone tried it?

Most of the sites say sesame or sunflower oil - but has anyone used olive oil?

Wow evedawn I've just googled oil pulling as I have never heard of it before and must admit I thought it was a joke at first but after some reading I think I will try it too! :o)

yeah wingnut theres loads about it on the 'net ay?

well i've done my first oil pull and will give it a try daily....

i thought it's be unpleasant but it leaves the mouth feeling very smooth and clean.
Oil pulling???? shouldn't it read "LEG PULLING?"

no have a google squad

i'm gonna try it - it can't do any harm.

I googled it cos i woke with a hangover (!!!!) and my mum said to try some olive oil - I thought she'd gone loopy but I tried it and I feel fine now!

It may be mind over matter / coincidence but it certainly SEEMS to have worked.

Results of googling....plus my opinion....

Earth Clinic..results of a Ukranian Doctorno scientific trialall anecdotes.
Colon Cleansing ZoneDr. Karash againall anecdotes and no scientific trials
Wikipediasame story, no scientific trials.

Scientific evidence,,,2trials only from a study in an Indian Dental school which showed that oil swishing 2 in the mouth was effective against streptococcus mutans.

Streptococcus mutans is a normal inhabitant of the mouth and it is a contributing factor in tooth decay.

Oil Pulling ("OP") is reported to cure: Mouth & Gum Disease; Stiff Joints; Allergies; Asthma; High Blood Sugar; Constipation; Migraines; Bronchitis; Eczema; Heart, Kidney, Lung Diseases; Leukemia; Arthritis; Meningitis; Insomnia; Menopause (hormonal issues); Cancer; AIDS; Chronic Infections; Varicose Veins; High Blood Pressure; Diabetes; Polio; Cracked Heels

None of the above have been shown to be due to st.mutans except Mouth and Gum Disease

Clean your teeth, use a mouth wash, just as effective and less messy than oil pulling

yup point taken squad - but for me i reckon well "whats the harm"? At best it has made my mouth feel so clean (not messy / yuck at all)...and at worst...well it might be a load of hogwash really but it won't cause side effects.
