Why do we need wisdom teeth? What use are another four teeth going to be? I mean I have managed fine for all this time with 28 teeth so why do I suddenly need a further four?

Humans life span was much shorter than it was just now, in the past by the time your wisdom teeth appeared it was to replace teeth that u had lost..so if u got them at 15 that would be about half the average life span

Oo right well they hurt like hell and I was just wondering why - thankyou

Crazy chick have a word with the dentist if those wisdom teeth are hurting that much....it may be that, if there isn't enought space in the jaw, they have got impacted and need treatment.

In the meantime painkillers are the only thing to help!

I think there is enough space it's just that there is still a part of the gum covering the tooth and because the tooth is trying to break through it it is very tender and sore, but thankyou for the advice if the pain gets worse I will definately pay the dentist a visit as I don't think I would be able to put up with it - I feel really sorry for all those little toddlers out there who are teething as I realise now how bad it is! x

Oh I do feel sympathy for you crazy chick.  All my wisdom teeth did was cause me trouble until they had to be taken out.  I often wonder too what use they ever were.

Oo I hope mine don't have to be removed! I feel that they are pretty pointless I have managed all this time without them and now they suddenly sprout up and cause me nothing but trouble. Even kapake don't help with the pain!
Try mild salt water mouth washes...they'll help wash out any debris that the toothbrush doesn't get...It's what my dentist recommended whenI had to have one out  a while back. It's better than antiseptic and cheaper!!
So dentists can make more money when they take them out!
I had all my wisdom teeth whipped out, and believe me, the short pain you have (even though you get an anaesthetic so it doesn't actually hurt) getting them removed is definitely worth it in the long run! No more sore gums and teeth!

I had all four of mine taken out when I was 28, a helluva long time ago but it still seems like yesterday. I`d taken painkillers for about a year before going to the dentist, who x-rayed them and told me they were growing sideways ....under the teeth next to them.

A night in hospital, general anaesthetic, and two stitches in each gum.   Not an enjoyable experience and like crazy chick I wonder what the whole point of them was.

Sorry to be so cheerful but go get them seen to.  Be brave!!!

Question Author
Ooo I know i should be brave but when dentists drill and pull and do other nasty things to my mouth i can't stand it - but you're right I will make an appointment to go get them checked out 'cause at least then something will be done about them instead of me sitting here in pain being a scardy cat! Thanks all! xx
