Does any fellow sufferer have any great tips on how to treat it naturally when the symptoms appear. Currently on my second bottle of lemon barley water and it's not working! Help!

Try cranberry juice.
Question Author
will do - thanks. I may explode but anything's better than this!
Cranberry juice is very good, but to get rid of it first try Cymalon or Cysteme - then keep a packet handy, just in case... If it shows no signs of retreating you may have picked up an infection which will then need antibiotics. Try the other suggestions first - and Good Luck as this is a really horrible condition.
1 tsp baking soda in glass warm water. Rpt about 4 hours later.
I know this isn't particularly helpful, but I find that whenever I get it the only way to ease the discomfort is to sit with my legs tightly crossed, squeezing the muscles 'down there' in as hard as I can. It soon subsides. Drink loads more water and, whatever you do, do NOT go to the toilet again for a couple of hours.
Tesco have an offer on at the moment (or is it Asda? too early for me lol) and Ocean Spray is buy one get one free. They do a lovely cranberry with blackcurrent and cranberry with raspberry ... I dilute them in water 50-50 so as to get rid of some of the tart taste than cranberry juice is known for having. The one with blackberry is lush ... just like ribena. xxx
I find that bicarbonate of soda in water helps. Its pretty weird to drink though. About a half level teaspoon in a small glass of cold water, stir well and get as many glasses down you as you can. Intersperse with good old cranberry but watch the sugar content of the cranberry. Once I tried putting the bicarb in the cranberry, now that was REALLY disgusting. Get well soon. PS if it doesn't clear up fairly soon, do go to the doc's as it can track back and infect your kidneys which is really unpleasant
That's a good point woofgang - if the sugar content is too high it will make the problem worse not better, so choose Ocean Spray Classic Cranberry (highest pure juice, lowest sugar, I think!) and don't forget to add some water. As a bonus you can buy it in 1.5 litre bottles at the moment instead of those annoying tetra paks.
If you have internal pain take paracetemol & for external discomfort try taking a jug of cool water with you & slowly pour it over yourself (down below - not over your head!) as you sit on the loo. It's very soothing.
Make sure the cranberry sugar has NO SUGAR in it. It has no effect at on cystitis and other such problems if there is any sugar in it. I have been told this by some doctor friends. My mother received the same advice. My mother was going crazy when she visited me here in Sweden as it is virtually impossible to find sugar-free cranberry juice here.
Just thought I'd add that lemon barley water is probably one of the worst things to have picked - anything citrus can make it worse or even give you an attack (I speak from experience). Rinse yourself after going to the loo and keep drinking water or cranberry even when it goes against your instincts to drink anything and it should hopefully clear up.
As soon as you can get an emergency appointment with a GP who should give u anti biotics which work like a charm. It also means that they can track it if its recurrent and take the necessary actions. (test etc)
