My future wife's mother is really quite ill. She suffers from high blood pressure, so much so that she was admitted to hospital the other day with bleeding from her eyes (apparently) she's been told by the doctors that she needs surgery, she eats alot of fruit and veg and that, she even does alot of walking.
I was wondering, what drugs can she buy over the counter (or on prescription) that may help?

If she has been admitted to hospital - they will give her whatever drugs are required. Not everyone suits all the different medications around for hypertension, it may well be a bit of time before she can find one that suits her (there are lots of different ones - from beta blockers to water tablets and more in between). If she needs surgery, she really should not be trying to buy stuff over the counter - she needs the experts (the consultant at the hospital and her GP) to sort her out. I wish her all the best and a speedy recovery.
If they didn't give her anything at the hospital for her blood pressure she needs her Gp as soon as possible (it maybe that the hospital advised her to do this)
She needs to get medication from her doctors NOT over the counter. As Jugglering said there are lots of different sorts so the doctors need to monitor until the blood pressure comes down and is stabilised. Personally, I would get her to the doctors as soon as possible. Why not g
et her to telephone tomorrow for an appointment.l
Reassure her that there are lots of things to help bring the blood pressure down but she must get medical advice
hmmm what op can you have for high blood pressure?

She has got cardio vascular disease and has been advised to have surgery, she's not keen on the idea, I don't know her mother's medical history at all well part of the problem is that she lives in China (I don't know how they do things over there) when she went in the other day she was bleeding through her eyes, which, with hindsight that probably means her eyes became very bloodshot, I had visions of something like the Ebola virus!
I know she needs the doctor (and the surgery) I was just wondering if there's something that might stave off the inevitable.
Sorry123 everton, havent a clue about their healthcare system.
Hope she goes on ok. It must be a worry for her daughter being so far away
