Has anyone had any freakish ingrowing hairs?

Many years ago in my armpit, whilst bored, I went exploring and found a strange hole, like an enlarged pore. I decided to root round with a needle and managed to hook a hair.

Anyway, as the hair came out, it just continued and continued. It was like a concertina. When it was finally all unravelled it came out quite easily. I pulled it straight and measured it. I was horrified to find it measured 5 inches.

How many years do you think it had been coiled up in that pore?

errrgghh yes, that happened to me once. I think hair grows about an inch a month (on the outside, anyway!) so quite a while I guess.
Wow surprised you didn't notice it earlier.

When I get one they feel like a little lump under the skin and really irritate me.

Never had one in armpit or that long, only on my legs after waxing.

A friend had one that caused a track up her leg and she needed surgery to get it sorted.

Has the hole closed now?

Usually, I would have a lump for ingrowing hairs, but this was a strange hole, that had been there for years.

The hole has now closed...I think!

Was your friend able to see the hair in her leg, under the skin Emmeedask and was she allowed to take it home?

Where was your freakish hair Jno?
She couldn't see it as it was under a lump but when the Dr cut into it, it was lik a fan of hair ie. 5 hairs growing out of one.

When it had been removed she was given antibiotics and told to return in 4 weeks. When she did the hair had returned. This went on for months.

She was refered to hospital and they cut about 6 inches up her leg and found hair running in what they called a track. She doesn't have problem now as they sealed the track.

Its amzing what can go wrong from the simplest of things as removing hair.

Wow that's amazing and strangely intriguing.
It put me off waxing my legs, just have underarm and bikini done now and shave my legs.

I believe in the power of body scrub and a loofa!!

Happy waxing

well surely it wasn't done on the nhs???
Why wouldn't she have it on the NHS?

She had an ingrowing hair that was infecting her leg. The infection was making her ill and required surgery.
back of my leg, Velvetee - couldn't really see it until it did become a bit lumpy, then I had to get at it with a needle and mirror. Not painful, but it didn't half feel weird. Only a couple of inches long in my case.

(Not as weird as if I'd found a track, though, Emmeedask, that sounds quite gruesome.)
It wasn't pretty jno and poor thing is left with a scar. Her self esteem wasn't high to start off with and its knocked her a bit.

Makes me check my legs carefully now though

I sympathise with her though I wouldn't worry about scars on legs unless she's trying to get into modelling or something. They just make bodies looked lived in, and nothing wrong with that. (I know - I have a scar on my face from an op.)
I know what you mean I have scar and a map of stretch marks. My husband says it shows i've lived and produced our children. I've had lots of lumps and bumps removed over the years and it doesn't bother me.

My friend on the other hand had been cr***d on by her husband by a younger model and just doesn't believe she's attractive anymore.

It will just take time for her to get back on her feet.

I think I may have one of these strange little holes under my arm you know, I'll have to check in the morning now.

Did anyone else reading this thread feel slightly squemish or is just me?

By the way Velvetee, I meant to ask you the other day on a different thread but got side tracked, you were sayiong something about exercises for stomach and you were saying something about doing different work outs or something three times a week which I didn't understand at all. I am going to join a gym and I'm choosing some classes but based on your knowledge, do you have any recomendations for classes in particular that would work this area and top of thighs or do you think I should just speak to a trainer about using certain weights? (Sorry, cheeky to hijack I know)
Sorry to butt in. Aerobics is good for tummy, hips and thighs. I'll shut up now.
can I just say.... OH MY GOD! that was horrendous reading ;o)

So what exactly does a track look like?
Emmedask, if you happen to read this thread again then I am sorry if it gave the impression that I thought the procedure shouldn't have been done on the NHS. I fully support NHS procedures for such illnesses. I expressed surprise cos a friend of mine had been turned down for a similar op, maybe because she has not impressed on her GP that the situation was painful. I'll tell her about your friend's experience and hopefully she will get it sorted out better.
Sorry for any confusion and sorry to you Velvetee for interrupting your thread, let's hope they all recover soon.
Gawd! How bored were you!!
Ew, that is nasty but, strangely, it sounds like a satisfying thing to do. Haha.

I had one in my leg once. It was 'sealed' under my skin so I had to push a needle under it and then sort of lift it up to get it out. Wasn't long, just very thick.
Velvetee no idea what it looked like it as under the skin but I guess it was like channel.

Cherrycherry not a problem I was just surprisd you were surprised if you know what I mean!!

Hope your friend gets it sorted, I think she can at least insist on being refered for a specialists opinion.
