Can the pill make you spottier? I know it's meant to make you less spotty and some people take it for acne, but since I've started taking it (for contraception, not for spots) I seem to have gotten spottier. I have a good complexion and hardly get any spots at all, but recently I've broken out on a wave of them. I've only been taking it for about a week. Could the change to my body be causing the spots, or is it more likely that I'm just extraordinarily spotty lately?

It could be due to excessive sweating due to the season.

Try an old-fashion tip: Athletes foot powder applied to spots at night. It clears up my childrens spots within days
A change in hormones could do it. You're not due on are you? Have you looked at the side effects?

See how it goes but if you think it's not working for you go back to the doctors and see if there's any you could have dianette. I took that when I was younger as I had spots and so did my sister an it worked for me and obviously it's also a contraceptive pill. I still take it now because it's a treatment for PCOS. However your doctor/nurse will be able to advise you and give you all the options if you feel the need to go back.

If it is due to a change in hormones will it continue until i stop taking it, or will it clear up after my body gets used to it, seeing as I've only been taking it for a week?
Well if that's what it is, I'd just give it a month or so and see how I go. Seriously, have you read your little leaflet you get with them? What is the pill you're on called?
Question Author
Yeah I've read it. Doesn't say anything about spots in the side effects. I think I'll just see how it goes. I'm going back to the doctors on Friday anyway so I could always ask.
It's Microgynon30 by the way.
Well I think that's the one my friend takes and she's used the same one for a while now. Have a word if you're going in anyway, it'll put your mind at rest if nothing else.

Thanks China :)
You are spotty, are you a leopard?
Another witty one by the master of the un-funny.

They work differently for everyone, pinksmartie. I had a very clear complexion until I went on the pill, then I was covered in acne within a fortnight. If it continues, go back to your GP and ask for Dianette, which they prescribe for acne as well as a contraceptive, anyway. It's just a case of finding a pill that agrees with you. After Dianette I used Cilest, which was very good. Hope you get it sorted. :)
