you like your best friend (opposite sex) as more than a friend, but you know they would never want to go further?

I hateee this! We were at a party yesterday and he was dancing with this girl VERY closely, although afterwards he said he wasn't enjoying it and he didn't really think anything of it (I know I can believe him, and he was a bit drunk. She fancies him but I don't think he even likes her at all, and she led him onto the dancefloor) but I actually can't get it out of my head. Jealousy is the most horrible emotion!

He's also doing a 4 day course at the moment in a different city (he travelled back here for the party btw, in case that sounds like I've contradicted myself!) and has been telling me about how the girls are so pretty and how him and this girl can't stop staring at eachother. I really can't shake this feeling of jealousy, it's actually making me ill.

It's not that I even want a relationship with him, because I know he doesn't want one with me. I just have to get over him I suppose.

I just think it would make me feel better to know that other people have been in a similar situation but have come out the other end and gotten over it. It's all I can think about at the moment.

Thank you!!

Hi there
Been in the same situation. My male friend and I kissed at a party 6 months ago and so I ended up falling hookline and sinker for him. Trouble is we are both married and I don't think he feels quite as strongly about me as I do about him and so nothing has happened between us since, even though I would have liked it to.
I am deadly jealous of his wife, which makes it hard having a friendship with her properly now, but I see her quite often and my children and friends with their children.
But I have just had to grin and bear it, I have had some terrible days being upset during those last few months. It's very hard falling for someone who either doesn't want you back or has just not noticed your strong feelings for them. Sometimes just being around them as friends is what you have to make do with at least you have that friendship.
Time is a great healer.
