Have you ever noticed that almost all diets out there involve eating little to no snack foods and small meal portions? I don't think they should actually be called diets as doing those things will obviously lead to weight loss regardless of what you eat at meal times. Does anyone agree? Feel free to post links to different diets as I wouldn't mind comparing them and looking at the similarities between them.

I think a "diet" infers something special or special attention which is paid to the food you eat and the quantity, where some sort of restriction is put on it. if someone was not on a diet, you would assume they could eat any food in any amount. The word 'diet' could be a fad diet or just one where dairy or wheat is removed due to an allergy. Reducing your intake by eating smaller meals and no snacks is still a diet, as there is a reduction in quantity!
My opinion is that most diets do not work- the faddy ones. You need to be able to eat what your body is craving, so cutting out whole food groups is too hard to do long term. I have found the only way to lose weight is to, ironically, eat no snacks, and smaller meals! But keep the food basically the same, so your diet is balanced. Avoid sugar and choc as it mucks up your system. A couple of weeks without it and you will never crave it again! Then you are back in tune with your body and if you listen, it will tell you if it wants vit c, calcium, carbs, protein and most importantly, it will tell you when it is full. Sugar mucks up those signals, as does empty pointless food like crisps. Just eat 3 meals a day, stop when full, and you should lose weight.
I've always thought diets are a bit silly.

You do something to loose weight, then once you are where you want to be you start eating normally again.

My sister is going through 1 of these fads at the min. She weighs all of her food, will only eat what is on the "OK list" etc. Once she is down to the weight she wants to be she'll just balloon again.

About 2 years ago, I weighed almost 13 stone. Just by eating the right amount at the right times I managed to loose 3 stone. I've kept the weight off for about 30 months now, eat whatever I like just try not to eat too much.

At the end of the day the only way to loose weight and keep it off is through eating the right amount of the right things and doing a bit exercise.
No fat people came out of Belsen. Sorry! But there really are no short cuts. Eat less. Exercise more.
I don't diet but I control but my weight by not eating chocolate, biscuits and crisps and only have the occasional cake. It works for me. I eat all the usual foods which diets tell you not to eat like: chips, pizza, white bread and cheese which doesn't affect my weight but as soon as I touch chocolate I put on weight. I know what I can and cannot eat without gaining weight.
