I would like to be educated about wine - but from watching these programmes on the telly - this subject is a minefield to me .

There appears to be so much to know , in order to make an informed choice .

Just taking french wine alone - there appears to be so much variation , depending on the type of grape / region that the grape is grown in / and even the region within a region / type of soil - etc etc etc .....

Is there an ' idiot guide ' that anyone can recomended , which gives you the a, b, c on the subject ?

Majestic have bottles open for tasting ... do you know what types of grapes you do and don't like. I find that having a couple of bottles open for a side by side tasting which gives you an better insight than trying to remember what the previous tastes were.

The book people have some good coffee table books on wine at a reasonable cost.
