Worried about growth.

When you read about measuring your uterus while pregnant, everywhere seems to tell you that your uterus should be about level with your belly button at 20 weeks. Well mine about 2cm above that which I was then told is normal - 2cm either side as long as it doesn't change too much.

Well every week I felt it and it was always 2cm above where it should be, like 23cm at 21 weeks, 22cm at 22 weeks and so on so I was happy that this was normal growth.

Then I got to 27 weeks and it was no longer measuring the full 2cm above that. By 29 weeks it was only just, or maybe a little under 29cm.

I spoke to a midwife who said it should be normal and maybe I wasn't feeling it accuratly. She also told me that at 20 weeks it's normally still a few cm under your belly button and it's only level at 24 weeks?!?!

Now I'm really confused but still worried. What was I feeling then that was growing so steadily until now?

the size will vary a lot as you go pregnancy and not always stay at the same amount above or below the number of weeks.

The midwife will not usually be concerned about a difference of 2cms unless there is any other cause for concern. I have a history of large baby and so when i started to measure more than my weeks I was sent for further scans.

The babies position changes and this can also effect the uterus height as can the babys head engaging

Try not to be concerned. The midwife will have seen this in most pregnancies.
