gay or not?

Is it possible to work out whether someone is gay or not , without actually asking them straight up,

reason i ask is that we have a chap at work and we are trying to work it out,

are there any tell tale signs, etc that would give it away.

Don't laugh, but one of my gay male friends told me that you can tell if someone's that way inclined, because they have a "look" in their eyes. Curious as to what he meant, I studied some of them - and it's true!!! I can't explain it properly, but it's there!
I'd be very careful about the poor chap at work though, kujawski. What if he is, but doesn't want anyone to know? Or what if he isn't, & then feels affronted that his colleagues thought that about him? I think you should all find better things to do, & leave the guy alone!

There really is no easy answer to this one. I have BEEN THERE!! I fancied a man at work for years, and still don't know if he is gay. He was a quaker, looked like Santa, and was celibate. Hmm. I think you should say "please don't take this the wrong way, but someone in the office really fancies you.. might you be interested?" He will say "Who is it?" and you will say "X". He will then out of politeness, tell you if he is interested or not- and if he is not, it makes no diff if he is gay or not- they have no future! He may then just tell you he is gay. Or he may say that he IS interested, in which case- hang out the flags.

Its a common misconception that all gay men have anal sex. They don't!

Does he employ phrases such as:

"Shut that door"
Is his computer desktop picture one of John Barrowman?
Does he have a lisp?
Does he enjoy watching musicals?

when i wanted to know - i said to him 'god, george clooney is handsome - what do you reckon?' he could have either agreed and from his reaction i would have known or (as it happened) he said 'i dont know im not gay'! to which i said you dont have to be gay to know if someone's handsome or not - and started a conversation about this!!

Try and get him involved with a few work colleagues to go to a pub for a drink after work. Then engineer the following scenario - He's sitting at the bar and you ask him "can I push your stool in?"
His reaction will go a long way to giving you the answer to your question.

can't understand why it's even an issue. why do you need to know one way or the other. if you and your workmates think he is an ok guy, well what difference would it make, if he was gay. if you all dislike him, then ignore him, and all get on with your lives,
it 's like working in an office here in liverpool, and saying to one of your mates, "i 'm sure that bloke in our office supports united, he's never said he does, but he's never said he does'nt "
well shock horror, but does it matter. if the guy wants part of his life not sniggered about, at work, respect his privacy.
