A few weeks ago i had a really bad nightmare relating to a real life situation i was soon to be experiencing. That nightmare included one of my biggest phobias which i don't want to mention on here. As a result i started to panic everytime i was going to sleep and i would try to keep myself awake. Since that night the panic attacks and anxiety attacks have been getting worse. Last night after having to resort to constantly drinking coffee all night i have decided that enough is enough. I can't find any info on the internet about this and i'm too scared to go and visit my doctor. What can i do to get this sorted or what tablets can i take to keep me awake?

For a start its not tablets to keep you awake you need.STOP the caffeine-you are not doing yourself any favours -that can make you anxious in itself.

You have to get a night sleep-you will feel better for -no-one has ever died from lack of sleep -your body will just take over.

If you are really struggling take a couple of Nytol for a couple of nights to get this fear out the way -you need to know that you have nothing to fear from sleeping and they gently put you into a very pleasant sleep.

Hope you feel better soon -stop fighting it its making you worse -please take my word for it.

Wix the sleeplessness will only increase the anxiety and panic. You need to sleep and as drisgirl suggests a gentle herbal remedy should help.
If you are really anxious you can call the Samaritans. They have people to listen to any sort of problem.
You are causing yourself much harm and will eventually get a nervous breakdown. If you don't want to go to the doctor, talk to folks on here, talk to someone. Some on here are quite knowledgeable and helpful. Make a new name and post - no one would know it's you. Hope things get better for you. xx
honestly go and see the doc. You've nothing to fear from them. I went through a similar period of being afraid to sleep for slightly different reasons and he was well understanding and prescribed me some light sleepin pills which help your body to get into the routine of sleepin again. Hope this helps...
As the above said you should go and see your doc i like geff went through a bad period and couldn't sleep..

over quite a long period of time i had nightmares with sleep paralysis just as i was dropping off. the nightmares were unrecogniseable as dreams because as far as i was aware i was laying in bed waiting to fall asleep when someone would come into my room. this happened so many times. i even felt them get into bed with me and snuggle up next to me or they would pace up and down beside my bed and i swear even to this day i was awake! time passes and automatically as i start to slide into sleep my body would just involuntarily force my eyes open shaking my head. got sleeping tabs off doc, which kinda made things worse. they forced me into sleep when my psycholgy wouldnt let me go. i had something a bit like a fit, one side of my body sorta juddering. sleep depravation does some seriously wierd things to you - a bit like paranoid & trippy if you know what thats like, and you will only make things worse by trying to stay awake. see the doc, i have no miracle method but they will understand. the problem with the nightmares stopped when i moved in with boyfriend, but i still have problems actaully getting to sleep. my body just doest seem to let me. i wish you luck and if you find a way can you let me know?! xx
