Apparently, just sit her down & get her to take slow deep breathes into a paper/plastic bag. That's what the first aid staff did when my daughter had a panic attack in a shop.
If it's a long term thing, get her to go to her GP for referal to a therapist.
Here's a link to No Panic which you might find helpful...click here All the best, you're obviously a very good friend.
Breathing into a paper bag would prabably be the best help, and maybe a sip off water........ Best thing is not to panic when she has an attack, be calm and comfort her....... Good luck.......
My friend is under a lot of pressure & is also having a lot of panic attacks. I have found that getting any onlookers to go away & then sitting quietly infront of her holding her hands & reassuring her really helps. Also if a paper bag isn't available, try telling her to blow out like she's slowly blowing a candle out...and just concentrate on blowing the air out...this will decrease the amount of oxygen she's taking in & so ease the symptoms of panic, such as dizzyiness, numb lips and hands etc. She will automatically breathe in, but it seems to stop the gasping. Very important to get to the root of the anxiety when the crisis has passed...tackle that & maybe she could be free of the panic. Good luck x
watch the Sopranos - Tony Soprano suffers from panic attacks and is in therapy to try and control them. Watching this programme by itself won't help, necessarily, but it is the most brilliant TV show ever so you can't go wrong.

Ialso suffer panic attacks the best advice my mum gave me was if you feel one coming on move about wiggle your arms shake your legs always take deep breaths.they are soo awful but they do pass,i hate having them the fear of having one is worse than actually having one,i used to be a realy out going person i travelled alone for years but now i stay in my own area where i can get home quickly if needs be and its a crap feeling,iv suffered for five years now and although i can go out and have alaugh and be half normal i dont no if il ever get my old self back.i will keep fighting it though.thing about it the i have the best family an no worries so why is it still there,my mum says if iv nowt to worry about then i make things up to worry about so realy im my own worst enemy.
Christie- Have you ever read "From Panic to Power" by Lucinda Basset. Her clinique is in the Midwest (USA.) Look into it, you shouldn't be feeling like this. The world can be a happy place!
