I've had my period for a good 4 years now and for 3 I've been using tampons. However, only recently I've been experiencing serious discomfort with them in. 5-10 minutes after inserting I had unbareable pain that made me feel faint and sick when I wasn't clutching my lower abdomen. It started in May but I was having such bad cramps I was physically unable to move out of the foetal postision in my bed other than to take the evil thing out and get some painkillers. Paracetamol didn't budge it but ibuprofen did. After they kicked in I was fine. I began using pads for a while and decided to try the tampons again seeing as my body has been fine with them for years (I got a bit sick of pads). This was a bad idea and resulted in the same thing as last time. Can anyone help me with this? I don't quite understand why it's happened. I did wonder about TSS but I had no symptoms of it when I'd removed the tampon and my health and periods are fine (if a bit heavier than usual). thanks mimi xxx

Maybe you should make an appointment to see your GP or the Nurse mimi. He/she would have dealt with this problem before & will advise you.

Good luck.
Best to see you doctor. Could be a bit of an infection that's making it hurt - or a bit of an allergic reaction to the tampon. You can get organic tampons (Natracare etc - Google it and there are loads of options) which are less likely to irritate - but I'd only try them out after checking there is no underlying cause. Take care x
