Hi guys,
I hope you're all well!
I was wondering if anyone has any treatment or cures for stress and anxiety. I was made redundant around a month ago, and am really struggling to find alternative employment. This is really getting on top of me, as Christmas is coming up, my car has gone up the ******* (see the automotive section if you think you can help)! and I'm becoming increasingly nervous and anxious about everyday situations.
I am extremely irritable and seem to take this out on my loved ones (mostly my mum and boyfriend). I have explained that I don't mean it, but it's causing frequent arguements. I know I'm doing it, but cannot stop!

Also as mentioned, I keep becoming nervous about everyday situations. I remember one day last week, I was supposed to be walking from work to meet my Mum, and remember feeling really nervous about it (butterflies in stomach and nausea). I also have had a funny turn, feeling dizzy and have almost a constant tension headache. I have also experienced fairly frequent pains in my chest (a couple of times a week), and have heart palpitations most days too.

I'm not having problems sleeping, but the other factors are causing me concern. I have an appointment booked with the doctor next Monday, and wondered if anyone has experienced this, so I know what to expect. I have read about Diazepam, but my Mum says they wouldn't prescribe me this because of my age (only 20).

Thanks in advance!

Hi, it does sound like you are suffering from mild anxiety or depression, I can't really offer you any more knowledge on that but I am sure the doctor will help you. Just wanted to say take care and hope you feel well soon.
St Johns Wort is has a proven track record for stress, you can't take it if youre on other medication, and has some mild side effects,
You can buy it from a health shop, and the attendant should tell you all you need to know.

Fish Oil capsules are good to help anxiety, I know, they helped me.
Hi shady - While you are waiting to see your doctor, try 'Lanes quiet life' These tablets are herbal but do actually calm you down, I have taken them myself in times of stress. Take care xx
I sympathise with you shady, I suffer too, and get frequent 'panic attacks'. I am scared to go to the doc in case they prescribe anti-depressants as I dont like medicines at all.

If youre ok with taking the diazepam I think the doc will prob prescribe a low dose for you eg. 2mg or something which would do you no harm and would keep you calmer.
I can entirely empathise with you -I have suffered from anxiety sporadically for years.I agree with weeal a 2mg of Diazepam would take the edge off it and even just knowing you have them in your bag acts as a kinda security blanket and you probably will feel you wont need to take the.Its just a comfort knowing they are there 'just in case'. Good Luck x

Thanks everyone, you're messages really help. I know I should put things into perspective, as there are people much worse off than me at this time of year!

I think I'll give the herbal remedies a try, as although I have nothing against anti-depressents and Diazepam, I would probably rather try this first. I'd just like something to take the edge off it as Drisgirl says.

Thanks again!
they would prescribe you diazepan, but i would advise against it. i was recently diagnosed with depression and with my councillor i have overcome anxiety and stress, i suggest you ask your doctor or GP about cognitive therapy as i rate it! its a way of changing the way you think in situations
also, just to let you know, St johns wort didnt workfor me and i ended up getting worse through frustration.
I completely agree with lilminxlou

I think that before trying any medicines, even herbal remedies, you should try cognative behaviour therapy.
Like lilminxlou said, its about changing your perspective on situations and how you deal with them.

It might seem a little silly, even childish at first but once you get into it you realise that its exactly what you need, someone to show you how irrational you are being.
Please dont take that offensively as I had similar conditions where I was afraid of any social situations and afraid of falling out with people. It got quite bad to the point where I was avoiding social contact with other people.
It worked for me and in the end I didnt need any medication.

Whatever you decide to try, hope you get it sorted soon

xx

I feel for you , You have made the best step forward by making an appointment with the doctors, get the one you can feel comfortable with and can talk about anything ,

I have just got over a 7 week period of work related stress, I knew that I was in trouble all I could see were negatives , not sleeping and shaking in side , a sort of tremble , it was horrible, I too thought that diazapam would be prescribed , it was not he put me on citalopram , may be similar i am not sure , after 10 days or so i was feeling a lot better and felt as if I was seeing things more positive, even though my employer was plotting my down fall!!

anyway I feel much better now and I hope that you too can see the outlook has positive signs, treat it as a break or some me time whilst you re direct your life , somewhere you want to be, Christmas is a seasonal oppurtunity for some kind of work so keep your eyes peeled, Look on the bright side, whilst being interviewed, smile and be yourself ,Best of luck , you will be ok , just have a quite word with your mum and your boyfriend , they will suport you if you explain what you are feeling , stick with it and keep your chin up :-)
