A little concerned

Morning all.

I have been away for a while and was just looking at some recent posts. I haven't felt any movement from my baby yet (21 weeks) and I see that others have and from an earlier time. I know everyone is different but it is just playing on my mind. I read that it can feel like butterfiles in your tummy or blowing bubbles through a straw, but I have felt nothing:-0(

I had a scan at 18 weeks and all was ok and am due to visit my midwife on the 23rd Oct. So, has anyone else not felt movement by this stage?

Thanks

They say the range can be anywhere from around 16 to 22 weeks. Even then, some are different and feel it before or after. This is just a guideline. I really wouldnt worry if I was you, especially as you had a scan at 18 weeks and all was well. You may just have a lazy baby! My sister did with the last of her three and was even monitored but baby was absolutely fine........... she was just lazy! lol You may have even felt it but not realised.

If you are really that worried, give your midwife a call and ask her what she thinks.

Apart from this, how are you doing?
Hi warpig.

Have you got the pregnancy book as supplied by the midwife? In there it states that babys first kicks are usually felt between 18-22 weeks for first time mums. A few things can affect this too.

1) if placenta is at front then it creates a thick lining so teeny kicks arent felt so easily.

2) baby can be kicking towards your back rather than front

3) strong stomach muscles can be holding it all in and firmness is preventing you feeling it

The first kicks and movements are so slight that if youre on the move all the time you might not be aware of them

I tell you how my first ones felt with little CRX. this may help you understand. Its not huge movements and stomach churning.

When lying in the bath, with tum above water (well mine always is) use your fingers to drop droplets of water onto your stomach. Its such a light and almost invisible feeling but thats what little CRXs kicks felt like at about 18-20 weeks.

Try not to worry, to get an average of 18-22 weeks there will always be those that wait that little bit longer.

If your scan was fine then take that as comfort that bubs is happy and active in there.

Hello Warpig,

I would say don't worry at all, the first time i felt my baby move i thought it was hunger rumbles, it didn't twig with me that it was the baby moving, So next time you think you have hunger rumbles think again..
Don't worry though it may be just be a baby that has more important things to do than move around,
hope this helps.

Thank you all, I did think that maybe she was just lazy (like her mother!) and I will try the bath experiment - I could laze in there for hours. I am sure everything is fine but it just bugging me a little and you are right redcrx, as this is my first then I really don't know what to expect. I am sure the baby is definitely moving as sometimes some parts of my tummy are harder than others then after a bit it goes softer again so either this is the piglet moving or I have a lot of wind!

All in all everything is going fine, bought a pair of maternity trousers and they are too big or pathetic bump is too small!!!!!!! LOL, wtf is that all about? Went home to see the folks for a bit and my mum has gone nuts buying stuff, just little things but she is so excited bless her, it has given her something good to focus on. Isn't it fantastic how the beginnings of a little life can bring so much joy to someone so early on.

Hope all you girlies are keeping well too and that you have fully recovered psychick.

Thanks you muchly
warpig
just as jo says, it is very easy to mistake it for something else at such an early time.

Have you considered buying a doppler at all to listen to babys heartbeat? Some mums like that reassurance and you would then be able to hear the little kicks. Its a personal choice though, I never got one as i knew Id panic if i couldnt find the heartbeat.

would you like some of my bump (for bump read fat Im sure). My maternity trousers now fit at 13 weeks lol

Its lovely to go out and buy little things isnt it? I will wait for my 20 week scan before i commit to buying stuff, although i dont really need to as i have everything here already. I am very tempted to buy a new pushchair / pram though.

If your tummy goes hard it may well be babys back, i cant recall how early i could feel the bony bum etc when he was facing my back and kicking.

Just wait til your tum does the alien thing and you see bits sticking out all over the place or baby goes to one side and the other side goes flat, thats freaky lol

LOL redcrx, saw one of those doppler things in Argos last night and did, for one fleeting moment, consider it but the woman and man looked like two complete tw@ts (page 1495 if you want a laugh) so dismissed it out of turn and as you say it would freak me out if I couldn't find a heart beat.

As for the 'alien thing', dear god!!!! Will keep that quite and really freak mrwarpig out with that one, heh heh heh!
PMSL, seen pic on website! Poor sods have spent so much on the doppler and yet it looks like they cant afford furniture lol

the alien thing is great to scare hubby with but chances are youll be too freaked out to watch his face. I used to get scared of it lol
Hi Warpig, I'm afraid I can't offer advice as I am only 15 weeks on my first and I am not showing at all yet, which is a bit disappointing. The other day somebody at work said "Oooh, look a little bump is starting to show!". I didn't really want to tell her that I hadn't.... ahem...... been to the loo for four days and that is was actually bloating (sorry if that is too much info). Anyway, I am back to a flat tum today and although the 1st scan was fine and I heard it;'s heartbeat this week I still keep thinking that something might be wrong because I can't see it! I can't wait until I have a massive bump at the fron, I am so excited. Oh, and having a baby wll be nice too, but it will be great to have a bump and feel pregnant. Anyway, apologies, for the rant, not sure really what my point is / was, but I am sure that everything is just fine and that you just got a shy / lazy baby that's all. You will be glad when the rest of us have brats that are screaming the place down and yours is happy to laze around :-) X X X

pssssst Natalie.

Sweetcorn!!! itll get things moving again :)
LOL, thanks for the discretion Red :-D

P.S. I just look at that Argos picture - anyone else think there's a Corrie's Violet and Sean situation going on there? In a squat!
Im much better thanks warpig :)

You mentioned about you get hard areas that then become soft. I would think that is baby! My baby favours the right hand saide of my tummy and sometimes have a funny shape sticking out which I can only assume is babys bum! lol
I am pretty sure I was about 24 weeks when I felt the first Little Pippa move.

With each pregnancy the movements felt were earlier and earlier. I think with my 4th (and last!) I was about 15/16 weeks.

No worries, warpig :o)
Question Author
You are right Natalie, I can just see Sean and Violet with one of those!

Ah thanks Pippa, that has eased my mind, its just that I don't know what to expect and when I read about others feeling things much earlier combined with the lack of bump I started to wonder what was going on.
would you like us to remind you of this conversation when you are complaining that you havnt seen your feet in weeks and baby is banging out a tune on your ribcage?

Or shall we just keep quiet?

x
That and he looks camper thana row of tents warpig ;-)
Question Author
tee hee hee redcrx, maybe just keep quite about this one.

Natalie, he looks like a geeky gay alright and there is no way she would ever sleep with him unless she was really p*ssed and even then.....................
Well we might not have bumps just yet, but at least we have baby-daddies who aren't gay and furniture, which is more than Argos lady has :-)
