I lady trapped in the floods went into premature labour because of the awful stress, both her twins died at birth. I know that this is for the News section but had to put it here, it is so upsetting.

Aye, pussnboots, a sad, sad tale of woe.

However, can we be really sure the deaths were caused by the floods?

The Lord sent the rains and the Lord also giveth life.

My God, he does work in mysterious ways.

Let's hope the wee children are in a Heaven akin to the greatest playhouse on Earth.
that was very sad feel for the parents so much x
Question Author
I admire your absolute belief Shadow Man, I'm afraid I cannot believe the same as you. What on earth has God to gain from two babies dying.
God has nothing to gain as such, it is just his will.

He works in mysterious ways, and he has his reasons.

Why do the good die young?
Why do murderers and rapists live long healthy lives?
Why do children get cancer?
Why do the innocent die in road crashes?

Only he has the answer. I disagree with him on many points, but until own own judgement day, I guess we will never know. I am not as deeply religious as I sound, but confronted with the tradegy of this story, what other explanation can there truly be, if not a power greater than us?
I heard this, it is extremely sad.

No one could ever convince me that "a greater power" has any influence.
Question Author
Do you think that there could be a power greater than God. If God works in ways that we mortals find hard to comprehend, do you think that this is the work of the Devil.
A power greater than God?

In short, no.

Even the Devil will cower in the face of God.
Question Author
OK I must first let you know that I believe neither in a God or the Devil, but I am very interested to hear your views, I am yet to be convinced of either.
Hi puss, That is a very sad story, why it happened who can say, I just feel for the parents of the babies, I am not religious and when things like this happen I know why i am not, nobody will ever convince me there is a god, a greater power maybe, but if there is a god, god has a lot to answer for, I will never understand how such innocence can just be wiped out for no apparant reason.
Uncle Raymondo (yep, it is moi), isn't it strange that the very thing that makes you not believe is the same thing that makes me believe.

I told you religion is odd!!!!

I am not a bible basher, pussnboots, far from it. Lord knows I sin on a regular basis, but to be succinct in my response, I can not accept that we arrived from a ball of gas 8 billion years ago. simple as that. Yes I believe in evolution but even from our descendantry of apes, I can not accept that we originally came from little more than a carbon fart!!!!

There has to be a creative hand somewhere down the line.
Hi Ray, I agree with what you say.
Question Author
raysparx1, I agree, just trying to have a sensible discussion I really am interested in The thoughts of God versus th Devil. I also agree that this God has a lot to answer for, if he is so powerfull why does he keep giving so much grief to HIS innocent children.
Hi shadow man I like your train of thought, give us a clue who are you.

Creative hand, interesting concept, love the carbon fart thought.
Hi Shadow, good to see you, and you Doc, I wish I could believe like you, But I find it so hard to take in, maybe it is my lack of education, virtually self taught because I hated school, so I struggle with with, theories and religion, maybe one day it will hit me, the daft thing is I find comfort in the little church where I live, but I never pray, just sit and think, is that ok to do that ? or is it hypocrisy ?
I do not believe Ray, but I take your point.

Maybe sat in a church makes you think, sitting in a pub does it for me.
Nothing wrong with sitting in the pub Doc, I do that as well, and to me the greatest Cathedral is the field outside my cottage with the trees for walls, the sky for the roof and the birds for the music, that to me is peace.
Here's a little clue for you all. The walrus was Paul

As I said Uncle Raymondo, I am far from a bible basher and theology is something I know little about. If a church is your sanctuary just to think, then I am sure that is OK. Job done I suppose. Whether your "issues" are thought out with a religious aforethought or not, the fact you are in a church, your free will has manifested itself in to an answer. Hey presto!!!

Question Author
Ray, must admit that I have gone into a church when life has been intolerable and just sat there and thought, don't really know what I expected from it but I must admitt at the time it gave me a sense of peace.
I did suss you before that and it is always good to see your name, well I think so anyway. others may disagree.
its very very sad indeed - and i know this isn't exactly appropriate to ask but... is this really the saddest thing you have ever heard?
