went along to watch her, she is 5. the reception class sang a song which we were told had been altered in the last verse by one of the asian children in the (Catholic) school, the first two verses were very good, then when they sang the last verse the majority of people in the audience were a little stunned, they had changed the name Jesus to Allah!! It was a bit of a shock! Have you ever heard of such a thing?

You appear to be judging all Muslims as the same. Fanatical terrorists who wants us all to die.

I don't have any time for an extremist terrorist but that doesn't mean I wont befriend a Muslim.

There are videos like that, yes. I have no desire to see them.

Just as I have no desire to see evidence of a chubby white middle aged man abusing a child but fortunately we don't judge all chubby white middle aged men as child abusers.

A group that may be of interest, sure they dont want homosexuals or Asians in "our" country.

haha... of course China.
There is simply no place in this country for islam, it is a foul filthy evil whatever.
I'm all for racial tolerance being taught in schools, however in this instance I believe that the song/hymn should have been kept to it's original context. The better option (IMO) would have been to maybe add another song to the programme which is traditional for Muslims.

I am not a christian, I believe in nothing other than being decent to my family and friends.

Don't get me going on religion, it's all bunkum and extremely dangerous.
To be honest Boobies I think no matter which way round they did it that there would still have been complaints. I agree that there is sense in what you say but I still don't see the big deal about one verse.
HOLD THE FRONT PAGE! SHOCK NEWS JUST IN...

DR SPOCK & CHINA DOLL AGREE ON SOMETHING!!!! (... sort of)

Religion (like a lot of things) in the wrong hands is very dangerous. It's funny how God is always on the side of both countries at war eh?! I wonder what he/she/it thinks about being the scapegoat of all the worlds crap.

Whether it's bunkum or not... I've no idea. I guess we'll see.
I don't see the big deal either- however i'm a stickler for orginal songs, lol. It makes my blood boil when I hear a great classic in the charts with that dreaded funked up disco beat added to it, so maybe i'm looking at it from that angle?

Sorry, Ive rambled off on a tangent there.....do carry on!
It's not religion thats dangerous, it's people that are.

People who look for hatred will find it in the simplest text.
That's my Friday rant over, hope you all have a pleasant weekend.

Personally I agree with curiosity and believe this to be a load of bunkum.

I may well be wrong I was once but if they were to replace the name Jesus with anything, surely it should have been Mohammed, not Allah?
Jesus,Isa, Yahshua, God, Allah, Yod-Heh-Vav-Heh
what difference does it make? they are all the names of Jesus/God in the 3 main religions, the fact that they were singing a song celebrating the life of a man of peace speaks volumes to me
Was it the Elvis Presley song?

Octavius why on earth would I lie about such a thing. As I said last night I will get a copy of the concert and show that particular snippet.

I also agree in racial tolerance being taught in schools.
The whole concert was based on the way our children integrate with other cultures, year 5 had gone to Spain at the beginning of July to a Spanish camp, whilst there they had to order meals etc in Spanish. Our Grandaughters school was 1 of only 2 in the NW that won an award for these children to be able to go to the camp.

Year 4 sang in Italian, Year 3 sang in French whilst using sign language.

I just think considering the concert was based on other cultures, instead of a hymn that is probably 100's of years old being changed, would it have not been better for the children to have been taught a hymn from the Asian culture.
I have to say Tuppence that the clarification on what the play was about makes me stick to my guns more.

To me changing that verse was perfectly in keeping with the theme of the concert and highlighted that if there is a greater power it can be named many things. I'm afraid I still see no issue.
i dont think you are lying as the same sort of thing happened to me, at xmas my stepdaughters xmas plays were cancelled due to parents complaining it was too religious, the same reason the youngest wasnt allowed to sing baa baa black sheep !! this country has gone mad political correctness my eye
So can you tell us what the song was? As I said above, the only song I know of with those lines you gave previously are from an Elvis Presley song, not a hymn. And that song doesnt even contain the word Jesus, so maybe you misheard?
After Tuppence's full explanation of the idea behind the concert,I think he is absolutely right in thinking that a religious hymn/song from the Muslim faith would have been a much better and indeed inclusive way to go.Surely,it's a much better way to integrate faiths my showing each others music in full, rather than trying to change each others words. That just leads to controversy in all sorts of ways!
try this link then, why all the suggestions that the song didn;t exist?
