heavy" drinker vs an alcoholic. Difference?

What is the difference between a heavy drinker (as in every day needing to drink to "top up" but not getting completely drunk) and an alcoholic? I thought they were the same but I'm told they are different. Can a Heavy drinker degenerate is prob abetter word) to being an alcoholic?

Have a look on the AA website, an alcoholic isn't always someone who drinks every day. It's how alcohol effects your life i.e., do you miss days off work throughh drinking, do you suffer from memory loss, does it effect your family life etc etc.
Hard to say about the Who Soulette, Mods liked them and the Who adopted a mod look to appeal to all of those impressionable teenagers. Mods tended to like all types of music, i.e the who, spencer davis group, small faces who I would term as quite rocky to Motown, Bluebeat, Ska etc.

16. Do you drink alone?
17. Have you ever had a complete loss of memory as a result of drinking?

If you have answered YES to any one of the questions, there is a definite warning that you may be an alcoholic.
If you have answered YES to any two, the chances are that you are an alcoholic.

I'd needed to end off lastnight which is a pity cos the answers folks gave were really good! Particulary Trev HCS when he said some alcoholics regulate their drink.! I couldn't agree more - and thats the most worrying cos many others don't even realise they have a prob.
