I just said I'd do a sponsored Abseil off the building where I work! Another woman at work will be doing it with me and I roped a friend into it too! I am bricking it! It's not for a month yet and we still need to find out if there are places available.. but OH MY GOD!

It's to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Trust. I am worried though that I will get loads of sponsors and get to the top and decide I can't do it and let everyone down!

Have you ever done anything really challenging for charity?

why dont you just take the stairs
Off a building? Do you know how dangerous that is? My ex hubby was in the RAF Mountain Rescue Team and they used to do that in their display, you will need weeks of coaching and some serious accident insurance, or a bigger pair of knickers of course. Hope you don't get your carabinas (?) from the pound shop!
you could make it more interesting by not equiping the wing type, sail thingys (oh im so technical!)
It's not that dangerous, you only need to do it once and you'll know what to do. How tall is the building? Might get a bit more complicated if you need to tie onto a new clamp half way down.
Good for you Rubes my sister in law did it a couple of years ago. She loved it , is it going to be filmed ? if so are you going to upload it on You tube ?
If you do do the Abseil i will send a donation to Macmillan Cancer Trust with your name on it.
mrk
well what doesnt kill you makes you stronger!!!!, on the brighter side see it as an opportunity do do something really exciting thatt a lot of people have never done! and raisng money for a good cause!!!
Hi Ruby, get up there and do it you big girls blouse.

and get your sponsor form on here, so we can sponsor you
Piece of p1ss ruby,
listen to the instructors, dont lok down, keep at 90 degrees to to building and you will be safe and sound in seconds wanting another go
trust me, I've done it hundredes of times, in fact, if there are any more places, can I come and do it too?
You can register your sponsorship on justgiving.com and get gift aid doing it that way so you get more money and you can give us all the link to sponsor you.
I got the opportunity to do that a couple of years ago Ruby, and I bottled it. Felt terrible too-so my partner went in my place. He was brill, and he loved it (despite being scared of heights!)

Think it's an amazing thing to do, and all your nerves will disappear when you start the descent. You'll be so proud of yourself, and so will all your family and friends :)

You agreed to WHAT !!!!!
No , sorry Rubyrose , you will be ok love . Proper equipment and adequate instruction from the experts and you will probably be queuing up to go again . :-) xx
i see you have still kept your sense of humour ruby(i roped my friend into it)----roped, get it?
Oh God, we have to sponser you too?

mutter, mumble *counts pennies* whinge, moan
I've done one of these before off of a car park 100 feet up, the scariest thing was going over the edge, but as long as you keep looking at your feet an put your hand out near your hip you can't go wrong.

It's for charity, you may like it, it's certainly a buzz I can tell ya oh and if you don't like heights, it's not much of a view anyway as like I said you look at your feet most of the time.

Rather like looking down at your feet whilst walking slowly backwards.
My 70 year old mother abseiled off the carling stand at Leicester City Football club a couple of years ago. She was dreading it but decided the going up was a lot worse than the coming down (no lift) and wanted to go again as soon as she got to the ground. Good Luck.

Yay! You can all sponsor me! I don't even know if I have got a spot yet! They have 100 spaces and I emailed today and asked for them to put my name down. Didn't email until about 5ish so don't know if I am on the list yet! But I am SO scared!

Dot - Don't say it's dangerous! Oh poo!

Boo - I think the word you are looking for is Abseiling-thingymagig!... Duh... everyone knows that... ;o)

Skreech - The building is quite high but apparently we are only doing it from 100 feet... Is that high? I don't know. I shall go and measure! Lol

Hey MrK - I don't think it's going to be filmed but now you mention it, I might get someone to film it for me. Would probably be the most exciting thing I do. Lol.

Cazz - I definately think it's not an opportunity that comes round often... My mate did a sky dive the other week and I thought about it and thought about how cool it would be but now this has come up, it seems far more tame! Lol

Ray - You big meanie! I ain't done it yet... so lets just all stop being so hasty... I might bottle it at the last min.

John - I think going over the edge is going to be the MOST difficult bit but once I do it.... I should be ok coming down.... Of course I will have some adult Huggies on...
I will let you know if there are any spaces... Lol.

Thanks Skreech... If I get a spot, I will register there..

Leelapop - That's what my biggest worry is.... that I get all those sponsors and bottle it while I am at the top.. I hope they send someone down with me!

Bigmamma - Let's bl00dy hope so eh! Lol

Jacko - I stole that 'roped' bit off the advert for it... wondered if anyone had noticed. Lol

Boo - Don't be an old stinge!

Cockney_si - That's quite helpful actually... I won't be looking down though trust me... I might freeze though and end up stuck half way up
Oh Ruby, what ever happens don't get stuck half way up, i did that once and it hurt like hell, you will be fine, if the rope breaks, wait till you are about 2ft from the ground, then jump, anybody can jump 2 ft, so no problem really isn't it. xx
Question Author
ray - if the rope breaks????? what!!!!!!!!
Ruby, you will be fine, in fact you will want to do it again, you will get such a kick out of it and be so pleased with yourself, and what a great cause, I would rather do that than a bungee jump, xx
Question Author
