Everyone thinks that the music they grew up with is the best, hence for me it's the 50's, 60's and 70's.

i guess that but i cant get into todays music
The 60's and 70's without a doubt, yet I suppose I am an 80's child.

If it was not for The Beach Boys and David Bowie, would music be any good? I doubt it

It's on America's tortured brow
Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow
Now the workers have struck for fame
'Cos Lenin's on sail again
See the mice in their milion hoards
From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother, my dog and clowns

Can you see DJ Dizzy Tu'pac Aloud writing such beauty?

I rest my case.
Irrespective of 'your' age, the 60s and 70s were classic.

Love or Hate, The Beatles brought innovation and dragged music away from 3-chords.

The best years of the lot though were when Mozart was flitting around writing Figaro and piano concertos to die for.
60s, 70s

80s was sheeeeite
PS The older I get, the more I am getting in to easy listening.

This youtube post with 1960's crackles says it all really. And what lyrics-the dignity of a man who has to leave his lover because he feels he is too useless for her.

And anybody who does care to listen to it, you can feel the passion esp. at 1min 33secs.

Enjoy and lay truth to a by-gone age.

I must admit me to joe must come to us all
the 50s and 60s music, if you listen to the searchers, early beatles, everly brothers etc there was a distinct lack of studio effects. it was pretty raw music but you could hear the talent behind the playing, almost amateur. All I hear today is the same music but with so many effects that the beat is musically perfect to the second and machines don't have talent, so none shines through. Some modern singers get it right sometimes, such as "cry me a river"by that three legged bloke. even some of that crap music where the singer talks his way through a song can be entertaining, but I just like music so I am easily swayed.
but can anybody beat the excitement of the 50s rock? thats where it all started, and the same chord sequences have been used for half a century. will any modern music last as long.
regards, alf.(ex sixties lead guitarist, thats why I'm waffling on)

Thundercrack, I believe that same three chord theory you say started rock n roll has in fact got its roots in black slave blues circa 1890. Thus lasting well over a century.
Oh Joe I love Matt Monro but had forgotten him, thank you for that, makes me cry. Glad we agree about music! :-)
I love Jazz from any decade, but I listen to '70s prog rock as well
Trad jazz for me, can't stand modern.
ummmmmmmmmmmm, thank you for that link. In my view, the best Beatles track of all time is "If I Fell". The harmonies are absolutely perfect, and it is so gentle that it is hard to believe it is a Lennon song rather than a McCartney. "Cos I couldn't stand the pain", perfectly nasal.
Can anyone remember "If you wear red tonight" by the Beatles, don't think it was a hit, but I love it.
Oh there you are; ummmm Joe and john!
There's a question just posted that needs your expert advice, if you can spare a mo..?
Life on mars era.......
