No meat is meat and fish is fish.

Both are classified as FLESH with loonie vegetarians, which is where the confusion sets in.

A vegetarian should not eat either, however there is no word which decribes fish eating vegetarians.
Yes fish is most definitely meat!!

Check out Meat here: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/meat

1. the flesh of animals as used for food.

Check out animal here: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Animal

2. any such living thing other than a human being.
Yes it is meat
BTW joe_the_lion it's vegans would not touch either, you were close but, no cigar
No vegans do not eat ANY animal product whatsoever including milk and eggs. Lacto veggies eat dairy produce
Ratter, from wikipedia. I see why this is a point of argument. I guess it matters on your own interpretaion what jono is no doubt debating.

"Though fish is the flesh of an animal, it is often not considered to be meat for the purposes of food taboos"

However, Lambert is just wrong and clearly doesn't understand what a vegan is.
now im confused!!!
I think what is boils down to is it is either.

I maintain that meat is meat and fish is fish but in its true definition then fish is meat as well.

It is interpretation. For example if you asked for a meat pie and got a fish pie you wiould be annoyed.

Likewise fishing is never called meating is it?

However, you may say plaice, for example is a meaty fish.
Joe_the_Lion, referring to one of your previous comments, there is a word for a fish eating vegetarian. Its called being a "Pesketarian". Don't ask why its called that, but that's what it is!
Not going to argue with you joe_the_lion
Yes, fish is meat. A true vegetarian will not indulge in fish or sea food.

I will give my opinion as to what I believe. I think fish is meat.

My two sisters are both vegetarian. They are not vegans as this would mean they would not eat any animal produce at all (meat, dairy, animal fats, etc). They are lacto-vegetarian which means they do not eat meat (this includes fish).

Whether a fish is meat really depends on the person who eats (or doesn't eat) it.
