I'm a highly emotional person, who lets tears flow when neccessary. However, when the situation calls for complete self control, and I feel very emotional but try to hold my emotions in check. What is that 'lump in the throat' feeling I experience? I realise that it is connected with emotion, but what is really happening with my throat? This has puzzled me for 'time', can anyone help me solve this, please. Keep thinking ;-))

There is a muscle in your throat that keeps food down when you've swallowed.

When you become stressed, this muscle goes into a spasm - clenches - and feels like a lump in your throat.
