What is the average speed of a steady jog (beginner style). I am looking at doing the 5KM Race For Life but am unsure whether aiming to run is unrealistic as I do little excerise. Not sure how long it would take to run.
Any advice gratefully received...

If you can, go with a partner to chat with and jog at a pace that allows you to talk. Don't be afraid to walk run walk run. Just get through the first one and use it as a stepping stone for future events.
The atmosphere is generally really good and spurs you on.
Did this a couple of years ago and got round in 23 minutes. As it was a lovely day, sat eating ice cream and watching other people, who were still going round an hour and a half later. So, whatever speed you go at, you'll probably find lots are slower than you. Most of my non-regular -exercise friends did it in around 40 minutes.
Brisk walk would take u 45 mins so aim for 30-35 mins

Thanks very much for your advice, the website gives detailed training plans so it sounds very achievable even for someone who has only ever jogged for the bus!
