No way! Would anyone invite a complete stranger to spend a night in their house?
no! nice idea in theory but in practice no I wouldnt.

Going to be 14 people at my mums this christmas don't think she'd appreciate anymore.
Depends i did it with my cousin once he got in with the wrong crowd etc and had been thrown out. A complete stranger NO
In all honesty probably no, but then again I am sure some homeless people are quite stubborn and would they really want to go to a strangers house anyway?, a lot are quite happy doing what they are doing with the people they know on the street. They might be frightened of all sorts of things, i.e. getting changed by the people they are with and just suppose something happened, it would be them that got blamed for it wouldn't it? I say leave well alone and help out in the hostels and put up soup kitchens, safer that way!
think it depends on what kind of person you are. One of my best friends will open her door to ANYONE and has on many occassions. She has been burnt though and people take advantage of her good nature. That in my view is the problem. You try and help and most of the time they help themselves!!
I disagree that is just stereotyping i agree some may be thieves and druggies but some are probably genuine and are homeless through no fault of there own
Thats why I said most of the time. I will be contraversial by saying there is no excuse for being homeless....always jobs out there if you want them badly enough. McDonalds for example....
Agreed nic there are jobs out there but when u have no fixed abode it is very difficult to get a job.

no excuse for being homeless nic... do you live in the real world ?
nic, there probably is a job for everyone out there if youre prepared to do anything. But who employs a homeless person and how far would McD wages go towards rent?
I probably would if I knew them

crete I think alot of the time as nic has tried to say that Is that a lot of these people can get help. I have sat and taken time speaking to the homeless and a lot are just too stubborn to talk to family or are so into drugs they cant help themselves. I wouldnt let them into my house, but I would help out at the YMCA for xmas day. Very good question.
Actually replace stubborn for proud.
about 4 years ago when we had that bad snow we let some people stay that we did not know .as they could not get home
what were they like though sleepyj as you said they couldnt get home so they wernt the homeless people crete is on about. How did you know to trust them in your home?
Yes and have done ( well my wife did actually). No theft, no arson, no throwing up on our furniture, no getting p1ssed out of her face and no getting my kids hooked on drugs amazingly enough. She was a very nice girl, who used our address afterwards as a means to recieve mail and get herslef sorted out.
There is a vicar I kow who always has two or three homeless people over Christmas in his house and I don't think he's ever had a real horror story happen in 30 odd years of doing so.
No no no - no way
no they were not homeless just stuck about 50 miles from home .they where nice .my parents had a single man stay i was a bit worried about them but he was ok .we had a family stay so i felt safe .
