As I am sure to be plagued on halloween again this year by the little horrors that live along the road I've just made a very tricky treat for them ~ dipped some brussel sprouts in chocolate so they now look like rather nice chocky truffles. (I do have some proper treats for them too)
Anyone else think of do anything similar?

certainly was black bunny ~ but isn't it sad how quickly people are prepared to believe the worst? Just think ~ it's ok for children to go around demanding property, goods or money by threat and menace (I believe the legal term is EXTORTION) but offering a vegetable dipped in chocky has provoked that kind of reply. What a mixed up world we live in.
I quite like choc-dipped sprouts..
You could try razor blades in chewing gum sam...
Only downside if you did offer such tasty treats would be whether or not you can afford new windows...
This "trick or treat" thing is an American tradition, but I bet over there they don't tolerate kids vandalising property or otherwise intimidating people. I believe the tradition over there is much more family orientated, with whole families going round their neighbourhood together, beautifully costumed.
I for one dislike "trick or treating", however I keep a few sweeties to hand if I get a knock on my door, as I really don't want to be clearing eggs, flour off my car, or worse.
Does anyone do the same as me and take the coward's way out, or do you stick to your guns? What did they do to you?

Careful lucky, or else you'll provoke those that have had a sense of humour by-pass into providing another snotty answer ~ We know most of the kids round here and they always get stuff at halloween and when they are doing the rounds at Christmas. If I did actually give them chocky brussels they'd probably laugh then chuck them at me. lol
I'm just doctoring some Ferrero Rocher chocolates with scotch bonnet chillies ! Don't worry, only the older teenagers who don't make the effort of getting dressed-up will get them.
Its ok saying trick or treat ... and when you say treat you give them something ( if they havnt made an effort and are rude go for the spruffles) sproutes/truffles but if they look scary and have made an effort then give them treat! How about try and say trick and they havnt got one to show you thats a good one.
I have to admit, I love the idea of choccy sprouts! I really get annoyed at those who come to your door just expecting you to hand over masses of sweets without making an effort to dress up. it's such a shame on the lil ones who go all out - even if they're only in a bin bag with a bit of face paint.

if my 12 year old came home tonight and said someone had given him a choccy covered sprout and hed eaten it id wet myself...that is so funny. why cant we have some fun tonight its not just for kids , they come round, the older kids in a bin bag and bit of grey eye shadow on and expect us to part with money, sweets or whatever and then theres the littluns usually 5 or 6 together in a group accompanied by proud parents expecting the aww dont they look sweet / cute comments and you then have to give each of them something in their little bags , buckets and what have you , i think im gonna go to sainsburys and get me some sprouts!!
Havinmysay needs to take a chill pill too - he/she is so mardy - have some fun for goodness sake before you're too old to.

I think its a fab idea to get the little horros to eat more vegetables.....personally I hate halloween, it can be a very frightening time for those nasty kids and youths that pray on the elderly and infirm and threatening to pelt their house with eggs n flour and damage property, it should be banned personally ! Its an American thing anyway.
